Default coilovers?

So i dont know much about coil overs, but i was wondering this:
is it possible to take the coil and shock out of the IFS on the 98+ rangers and in their place put like a 2.0 or 2.5 coil-over using the eyelet conversion kits they have for jeeps to mount the top part, and the other thing for mounting the bottom part? how would the coil bucket interfere? wouldnt the shock move only up and down, so theoretically you could put a coil over in there? i saw the thread on R-F but that was all 4x4 and edge, so thats pretty easy. any suggestions and thoughts? even if its too say its the stupidest thing ever...
P.S. for the down travel and stuff would the uca's used for 2.5 lift coils work that out? or would they be insufficient?
