Default Inner tie rod end replacement?

Hey to all! My '02 xlt has been squeaking/groaning when turning the wheel or going over bumps. Crawling under the front driver side i find that the noise is loudest on the inside of the tie rod (nearest to steering rack). There seems to be no visual play in any of the ball joints or tie rods. So my next step will be to buy some moog inner and outer tie rod ends (the outers looking eaten up) and replace them.

Any info on the general removal/installation process, namely the inner tie rod ends, would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hey, I don't know much about how to help. But I can tell you that I am having the same problem with my 03 XLT edge. Except mine goes one step further and the whole car shakes on turns and bumps due to the tire wobbling. I'm getting my dealer to look at it, since it's still under warranty.

That video was for the outer tie rod end, an easy replacement. Do they make a video for the inner tie rod end? Thats what I need to do and If its easy enough I'll do it myself, I have an allignment due anyway. Otherwise I'm paying a mechanic...

sorry its from a different forum but I used this how-to in the summer. I put moogs on the inner and outer.
do one side at a time and turn the steering wheel all the way locked on the side you are working on. then you can get a pipe wrench on the inners and spin them off the rack.
put red loctite on the inner tie rod threads and tighten with the pipe wrench.
Dont torque the crap out of them as you dont want to damage the rack.(80 ft lbs should suffice...by feel) all in all takes a couple hours.then get an alignment!!!

Glad I could help. I was intimidated about the job at first but believe me its as easy as the writeup says..and the zipties will hold the inner boots on just fine. Good luck to you sir!
