Default Using coil springs for lift?

Ok, so im new to this site and I dont know much about trucks, probly a bad combination lol. I have a 4X4 97 Ranger XLT that I wanna make look a little beefy in a bad way! The only issue is that I dont have 2 grand that I'm looking to put into a suspension lift. I stumbled across some information about using coil springs to level out your truck which seems like a decent cheap alternative. Will I need to buy new shocks for the front if I decide to go with this or can I just stick with the shocks that I have right now? Also, if I decided to go with coil springs that would give me a little more lift in the front, say 3"+, could I get some ad a leafs to level it out more in the back? My back end sits pretty high as it is becasue it already had an extra leaf on each side. Any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
