Shackle flip with concerns of lift Question.
I was wondering how much drop you get from a stock shackle flip? Ive read from 1.5" - 4" so idk what is true.
I want to flip my rear shackle for the means of increased rear wheel travel, AND I plan on adding Sport Track leafs - with a removed helper spring. Its said the Sport Track cad add 3-4" of lift (maybe less with out the helper)
Basically, I want to add Sport Track Springs, and flip the shackle with out adding any more lift than an 1". I know I could get a longer shackle and it would give me more drop to neutralize the lift from the spring, but i do not want to cut into the bed, leading to my second question..
With a flipped hanger, how much longer of a shackle can I add before I run into clearance problems. I know some longer shackles for pre-runners you have to cut a hole for them to clear the bed.

Re: Shackle flip with concerns of lift Question.
Or should I swap to exlporer springs - which are 1-2" of lift, thats what deavers springs have (about 2 -2.5", and its supposedly no lift with a flip..) Idk if the explorer would have as much available travel though because of less arch..
Second confusion is some one said you can get 3-4" from a ST spring if you keep factory blocks.. i dont have blocks.. tho..

Re: Shackle flip with concerns of lift Question.
Flip the shackle or add a shackle for 1-2 in off lift, use the expo spring do a spring under that way you should be around stock. Next take a overload spring out of the expo the for more flex, if you want more then you need a lift spring with out the overload in it or you can run a 64in chevy springthe longer the spring eye to eye the more flex you are going to get out of it.
----------
o as for cutting the bed you dont cut the bed you bob it and run a cross brace with the shackle on the outside better decline and incline angles of approch.

Huh? When you flip the shackle and run a longer one, it will hit the floor of the bed. You have to either cut a hole for the shackle to swing into or lower the shackle mount. I'm not sure how bobbing the bed has anything to do with it, and the shackle is already on the outside.

Re: Shackle flip with concerns of lift Question.
Yea, Im trying to avoid cutting the bed. I dont want to run a 63" or 64" kit, Im going pretty mild, that is why I want to swap in the sport track spring, because they have more arch than the expo, but the same eye to eye, meaning they are longer= more flex, and i will deff take out the overload spring.
I think I am going to be ok with them, if I flip the shackle (according to deaver) that will be a 2.5" drop and If I take out the overload spring I would only expect to gain only 1" lift at the most.. if needed I can run a longer shackle.. i am just unsure how much longer you can go before cutting the bed.
Another, question, I am not sure if I should just start another thread, but I want to run 3" lift coils on my truck with the Fabtech arm for their 2.5" lift coil. Am I looking for issues or will the .5" be negligable (I excpect a little sag from weight).

Re: Shackle flip with concerns of lift Question.
The overhang of the bed that goes past the frame rails you measure the overhang cut that much out the side and move your lights and tailgate in. Here is a pic to better understand it a bit

Ok, I see what you are saying now. Definately not looking to do that much work, and I am not building a rock crawler either.. If worst came to worst Id cut a small hole, but I dont think that will be an issue.

I think bobing the bed makes it look like crap, cutting a 4x4" hole in the bed doesnt change the looks of anything, you just have a space where the shackle goes up.

Re: Shackle flip with concerns of lift Question.
If you bob it right and do the body work it looks fine most dont do the body work though, I can see if you cut a hole in the bed and make it clean instead of a hack job like some I have seen. Didnt mean for the last comment to come off ummm assholish?
