Default big time camber problems

Hi, I have a 1997 B4000..when I drive forward, I have massive positive camber..when I reverse, i have massive negative camber..when I drive it, it feels as if the steering is doing its' own thing, independant of steering wheel input. What problem do I have here?? I have had the u joints replaced. It is a 4X4, stock wheels and tires. Help?

Just start over. Focus on describing what happens when you drive straight and turn. What u-joints? If you mean your CV joints then get an alignment check. It's like $60 to get a front end alignment done.

Hi, will total ball joint failure cause the + and - camber situation that i am experiencing? Is there a way to test them with the car jacked up??like putting a lever under the lower control arm and lifting, etc? I will look at it closer and see if I can make the balljoints move.
Thanks, Howard

u-joints in the front axles..The front end is aligned..when driving, the truck wanders back and forth with no steering input. driving forward, the front tires are showing very pronounced + camber( about 1 1/2 inches)..reversing produces negative camber(about 1 1/2 inches)..when I turn the steering wheel while moving forward, as the front wheels go from right to left, at center, the truck feels like it lifts . Something is very loose..I will look closely at the ball joints.
Thanks, Howard

Check your spindle nuts and wheel bearings. Mine was doing that when I first bought it and the PO didnt tighten the spindle nuts enough when he put it back together.

I was wondering if anyone figured out what had to be replaced to fix your camber problem. I have the same issues.

I have some camber problems of my own too, causing irregular tire wear... I don't really want to get expensive tires for it due to this. No matter what, my tires always sit like this /----\ I don't understand it. It's had four wheel alignments done, front end alignments done, and everything else possible before I bought it. Anybody know what this might be?

it sounds like your toe is off. i would definitely get an alignment and see if that takes care of it.

have you checked the control arm bushings? also check where it bolts to the axle.

All of the ball joints in the front of my truck are just about ready to drop out..The shop that sold the truck to me had jerry rigged them to be in place..I saw tack welds on one of them..
The camber situation is a function of bad ball joints..and on my 1998 Ranger, it is a PITA to beat them out and replace them.
