Default I need some advice on how to tackle a problem!

Next weekend I will be replacing my upper and lower ball joints and the inner and outer tie rods and of course the inner tie rod dust boots on my 2003 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0L 4X4. Zip ties came with the dust boots not crimp clamp which are on there now.

In reviewing my options on how to secure the zip ties I found that there is no side, upper or lower access points to tighten a zip tie or crimp clamp (if used) around the rack and pinion to secure the dust boot. The only access is straight back internally with narrow margins. I bought a set of 16 inch needle nose pliers with different nose angles to tighten the zip ties but not sure if they will work.

Has anyone here faced this problem and come up with a solution? Am I thinking this through correctly with the needle nose pliers solution?

Thank you for your help in this matter.

I would go to the auto parts store and get the clamps, but you need a special tool to put them on....Seems like a PIA to me though

The zip ties - Just pull them hand tight, then put pliers on them near the part where they lock down. Then twist or roll the pliers against the locking part. You don't have to pull them tight this way.

Thanks guys for your replies of help.

PS: Bird76Mojo, I went to Home Depot today and bought some zip ties that have the stainless steel tooth. I used a few to practice with on a cylindrical object and your advice worked perfectly. Thanks again...
