Default Wheel Bearing Question

Hello,

I have a wheel bearing that I believe is going, so I wanted to ask if anyone knew if I had to replace the whole hub assembly and all, or just the bearing. Here is my truck:

2004 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4 4.0l 4dr.

Thanks!

Well, thanks for the help. I appreciate it. I believe I can manage to replace the whole thing on my own. I think it was mostly the price point that I was worried about. But, I've got no choice.

I have a 93 ford ranger(4.0l 6cyl) 4x4 xlt with autohubs. I am going to be replacing the spindle and bearings, seals etc. Last time I paid a shop almost $1000.00 to do this. It wasnt even 2 years ago. Then 6 months ago I paid les schwab around $200.00 for a repacking that didnt fix the noise. Anyway, I think I found the last used spindle in america(lol). What can I do to ensure that this happens less frequently?
What causes the bearings to wear faster?

Well it sounds like you got them replaced the first time for wear and tear. Then the early failure on that replacement could have been due to improper torque on the hub nut. Misalignment can also cause early failure to the point of being noisy but that would be evident in your tires tread as well.
How do you know that it's your wheel bearing making noise?

I know the sound and when I make turns to the left it generally will quiet and another shop made notation that they need to be repacked and the whole braking system needs replacing on the front end(which I will do). Les schwab had done the repacking one month earlier. I just need to know what extra I should look at replacing(Ball joints, Etc). Whatever it takes.

Please I want this done right this time.
