Default rear shock replacement

I need to replace my rear shocks on my 86 2wd xlt. I would like to get some that will add some lift or hold the bed where it is. I dont haul a lot of stuff but I would like to keep the rear from bouncing all over the place. I do know what shocks are for but I still want a stiffer shock just dont know which one to get.

Springs, their attachments, or spacers for the body create lift.

For a stiffer Shock, you are looking at a Rancho or a Bilstein HD. They will stiffen up the ride some. You might get more wheel hop with that set up though.

BTW, I'm jealous that you are getting the same mpg I am with two more cylinders.

There are rear shocks for pickups that have springs over them.
Or there are add a leaf type load handlingleaf spring setups or add ons. Both alow the truck handle normally with no load. Going with stiffer shocks is not an option unless you will always have weight over your rear end.

you can get load levelers from Monroe (helper springs over the shock) or air shocks from Monroe which allow you some adjustment to the rear springs
