Default body lift

i have a 94 4x4 auto trans ranger and id like to know what are the steps that are needed to put a 3" body lift on. i do not have a kit so i will be using some blocks that i have from another build. so i will have to get bolts and make bumper brackets, what i really would like to know it about is the trans linkage what must be done to it to put the body lift on?
