Default Re: Help changing shocks 1999 Ranger 2x2

I have stock arms and was able to press both top and bottom joints out. I think 4x4's had to have the whole arm replaced, but 4x2's could have the joint pressed out.

Ok I decided I am going to change the whole control arm instead of trying to change just the ball joint. I have not done this before though. If I jack up the car and take the tire, caliper and rotor off then usa a jack and put some pressure on the lower control arm to keep the spring tight and in place will that work? Then I could pop the joint on the upper control arm and unbolt it from both sides then put in the new one and secure it again all without taking out the spring? I don't know if that would work but what do you think? Or should I really take the spring out?

There is no need to take the spring out. Jack your truck up under the spring. take your breaker bar and a 22 and 21 mm socket and take the cam bolts off and theres 3 bolts that you have to remove. Two up top and one on the bottom in the middle. And do reverse to install the new one.
