Angry please help...at a loss :(

2001 xlt 4x4 torsion bar. ever since i replace my shocks i heard a wierd clanking noise coming from the front end. i hear it when i go over repetitive bumps, going up a steep incline at an angle. i cant seem to pinpoint the noise. everything feels tight underneath. i thought it was a wheel bearing but the wheels have no play in them and i hear no signs of a bad bearing. any thoughts? anything i should check?

thanks clinton ill check it out. any other thoughts?

----------

i just checked the lower control arm bushing and they are still there. i noticed though that my cv axles are a little loose. is this normal? they have just a slight amount of play in them. im going to take it in to midas wednesday and have them take a peak. i wander if its coming from the front differential? hmmm......

check the nuts on the underside of your front shocks that hold it to the control arm. they might have fallen off. mine have before and thats the same noise it made.

When you say your cv axles have some play, is it play at the flanges where the axles meet the differential, or at the hub end?

i grabbed the axles and tried to shake it and it sounded like its where they go into the front differential. both of them do it. and its just a very slight play

Hmm, i'd imagine a little play is normal. I get about a 1/4 turn on the rear axle of my F100. That's not normal.lol.

Did you put the bushings on the shocks correctly? The ones on my old Ranger were directional.

i put the shocks and all the components on correctly. i just got back from the shop and they said that even though there is no play in the front wheels, the bearings can still be going bad. they said it could also be a bad or broken sway bar end link. im going to put money on the bearings because the sway bar is fine and im hearing a whirring noise in the front end which indicates a bad bearing.
