Default Ball Joint Boots Gone

Have 2000 4 cylinder with upper and lower boots worn out. Can I just replace the boots with more grease or will I have to replace the ball joints? I was told that the joints were not bad. What would you suggest I do? Limited on funds so if I don't have to replace them that would be great but if for safefy it might be best. As I said I have no job. Thanks!!!

Give it a shot. If nothing else, it will buy you some time until you can replace them. Not sure if you can get just new boots though.

I'd say 900 is a fair quote if it goes anything like my '99. Took us a while and was a huge pain in the ass. It beat the shit out of paying an arm and two legs to get it done though.

Agreed, 900 is way too much.

I helped a buddy do ball joints on a 2002 F150 4x4, and it wasn't that bad. Time consuming, but not bad. It's best to have two people though, cause it makes it more fun.

When I did my passenger side one, I had to remove the lower control arm so I could get the press on the ball joint. It took some time to do but I only have hand tools. $900 does sound way high though. They charging you for 9 hours of labor or something?
