So here we go....I recently have found myself in a a situation that has been driving me crazy for 3 weeks.....Long story short....car pulls to the right while accelerating....and yanks very very hard to the left while braking...a little backround...started shortly after I put the 2' rear spring shackles on threw the 31 inch tires on...so I thought maybe I over-torqued the shackles....so I went and jacked up the rear end...loosened everything up...set the truck down..bounced it around a few times and torqued everything to spec....no change...swapped the tires every which way I could...no change...replaced the front calipers..pads and rotors.....no change....replaced the front sway bar links........no change.....replaced both inner and outer wheel bearings and torqued to spec....no change........FIANLLY I WENT AFTER THE TORSION BARS....I jacked the front end up bout 3 inches and checked the bars bolt(the ones you crank) right ones backed out almost twice as much as the left one..so I ran them all the way up.....than backed them out evenly....no change.....but one thing I noticed is the right ones hard to crank...need to use a braker bar...the left one turns with ease.....I soaked both down with PB blaster...not sure if the left ones not dropping the control arm down or not........any helpppppp is much appreciated on a next step

There's your problem, 2' is a little too much shackle. You only needed a 2" shackle.

LOL, yea, 2' would be awesome!, nope, nothing, just to work and back......somethings gotta give man...... this has been been driving me nuts for weeks......i thought possibly taking it in for an alignment.......but it doesnt make any sense.......how is it pulling to the right when driving.....and slaming to the left when braking....XXXX makes no sense......HELPPPPPPPPPPP PLEASE!!! Well, let's see. It wasn't doing this before the shackle swap. It only happened after the fact. Did you replace the hangers too or just the shackles? Does the rear axle look out of proportion?

It seems strange to me that it all of a sudden pulls to a certain direction after the shackle swap. Can you tell if there's any play in the rear axle as far as front to back movement that isn't normal?

Have you checked the front ball joints for play?

Oh yea, i'm not trying to rule out the Torsion Bars, I'm just trying to cover the other things too.

Good points!!!!!!were getting somewhre! Front end is solid as can be.................tell me if this makes sense...despite not always needing an alignment after a torsion crank........is it possible that im actually not yanking to the left.......my alignments off causing me to drift to the right...and when i press the brakes its drawing me back to center???????? Lol....i had a slight pull before the shackles went on but nothing as it is now.....i have a slight sag in the l/f...about a 1/4 inch but when you add 170 of me and the weight of the fuel i can live with that...


AXLES LOOK OKAY...JACKED UP REAR END AND PRIED UP ON THEM, NOTHING...LIFTED REAR END AND RAN WHEELS WHILE IN THE AIR...NOTHING SHOCKING......EVERYTHING LOOKED NICE AND STRAIGHT... CHECKED FOR ANY PLAY SIDE TO SIDE......NOTHING FOUND........AND I JUST REPLACED TEH SHACKLES

Hmm, this could very well be two different problems. The pull to the right may be related to the T-Bar, while the pull to the left could be related to your calipers.

Did you bleed the brakes after you changed the calipers?

both calipers are brand new...less than 20 miles on them....bled the brakes all the way around....pedals nice and firm...no sponginess...both front tires spin freely...no uneven wear on the pads.....im thinking im going to have the wife take the truck to firestone tommorow for an alignment....whats another 60 bucks?? im ******* deep into it now....lol.....if the alignment doesnt cure this im thinking im gonna be doing some t-bars

Yea, see what the alignment pulls up. Make sure you post back up and see if that was the problem.

so took it in for an alignment today(a ma and pa frame and alignment shop) pull while accelerating is not nearly as bad...still present but about 85% better......yank to the left while braking is also about 75% gone........still present but much much much better......at this point I cant complain....owner of the shop also agrees something's still off but he showed me the camber/caster readings and everything was within spec...one of those things Ill never know until it completely takes a shit and becomes more obvious

for the braking, you may have to get the brakes adjusted, sounds like one side is off from the other. My friend's 65 mustang had that same problem, not fun when you drive it and they forget to tell you...

The drivers side torsion bar bolt is longer than the passenger side.. Back up and punt.

The pulling could very well be a cause of the bars being out of whack. Take it to an alignment shop and have them crank your bars evenly then do an alignment.

took it for an alignment...saw all the caster-camber-and toe specs.....everything checks out----------last thing i could think of is that I have a valve sticking in the abs system.....

I would bet the rear axle is shifting on you when you brake it is going rearward and when you accelerate it is going ahead. I had the very same thing on a car I once had and we found the right rear wheel had rusted away from the frame and was loose.....Dave

I was unable to remove the factory rubber brake line from the left rear of my Impala when I upgraded to stainless lines. Under hard braking that sucker pulled right in a hurry.

I'd triple check every bolt involved in the rear suspension. barring that, have the brakes checked to be certain the proportioning valve is working correctly.
