Default Stock and too stiff

My 08 4cyl 5spd xlt 2wd is all stock and stiff as hell. I noticed how stiff it was after I bought it and thought that maybe it would soften up but after 14k miles its still so stiff. I have often wondered if a 2/3 drop would help especially in the rear.

It does. I have had a few trucks full size trucks included lifted ones and this ranger has the bumpiest ride of them all.

i am assuming you have coil sprung from your specs...not sure what you can do except get some nicer shocks. my last ranger was coil sprung and it was a soft ride for a truck i felt...i just remind myself, its a truck not a luxury car...

the stock shocks arent the best, when you have the bed loaded down it actually rides pretty nice. but kills mpg. id suggest first checking out the psi in the tires and then looking at some shocks, bilstein makes soft ride ones.

Yea I have noticed that just with an extra 100-200lbs in the bed it rides like a car. But I like my mpg over a bumpy ride any day.

ya than i would say get some softer shocks, bilstein makes o.e. shocks but they may be slightly too large since their for 4x4 models

you could also look into swapping your leaf pack. get some chevy 1500 lead packs, which require a new perch. or you could look into deaver and national leaf packs for a softer ride.

The reason your truck seems so stiff, is that you basically have a 1/2 ton suspension under a mini truck. The Ranger wasn't built to be a car, but a work horse. I bought the same package as you are driving, and the workhorse spring rates are a bit high for that light of a truck, but as previously mentioned, when hauling a load that a S-10 couldn't, it rides great.

If you would like to lower it a bit and improve the ride at the same time, you could remove the middle leaf from the rear spring pack. This will soften the ride while leveling the truck. Just don't do it if you plan on using the bed to haul anything over 500 lbs. Also, try some KYB Gas-A-Just shocks, they provide a controlled and smooth ride, without feeling sloppy.

I was thinkin about lowering it a little. I was looking at the stylin concepts 2/3 drop which is just coils and a flip kit. And that will change the ride. On my s10 the rear springs are under the rear unlike the rangers which makes for softer ride but less hauling capacity. Has anyone posted anything on that kit or does anyone know about it?

It will make the ride stiffer, trust me. I'm flipped with springs and a bit more. But flipping it won't make it ride smoother. The S-10s softer ride and less capacity comes from weaker springs, not how it's mounted. And the front lowering springs will make it ride stiffer as well.

Oh, and to get 2/3 with spring and a flip kit, they better have longer shackles too, 'cause the flip will get you about 4.5~5". And I believe you are talking about the DJM kit?

Yea that's the one. I'm kinda new at the whole lowering croud I am from the country and have always owned and been around lifted vehicles of all shapes and sizes. I just have a mental image like everyone else on what I want the ranger to look like. Nothin special tho.
