Default Rear Leaf Decision

Im not really looking for more than 1 inch lift in the rear. Im not doing this for lift purposes really because I have no way to really lift the front. Just looking to take out the stock block and use the best leaf to give me a better ride. an inch or so of raise wouldnt be bad but I dont want to go obver that because it will look out of place. So just seeing what options I had. thanks, Zach.

What are you looking to use the truck for? No hauling and just a daily driver or what?

There are three types of leaf springs out there that keep the height about the same as stock. 3 leaf or 2/1, 4 leaf or 3/1 (stock), or 5 leaf or 4/1. The three leaf will have a reduced load capacity and a softer ride and the the 5 leaf will increase load capacity and have a harsher ride.

The 5 leaf is harder to find. I think I found two web sites that offered them. The other two are much, much more common and can be found just about any where. There is a shop local to me that sells both.

I honestly just want a better ride but because I dont have a way to really lift the front then I dont want a rear leaf that is going to lift any higher than say an inch or so you know. I dont really hardly ever tow with my truck and if it was anything major Id just use the dads dodge 3500 so really just looking for a better ride. and I figured taking out the stock block and just running a longer leaf would help the ride, flex, and maybe even lift the rear a tad you know.

Your best bet then with no other modifications would be the 3 leaf springs then. Beyond that, there isn't much you can do. There are other springs out there that are single leaf but all the ones I've seen are for lowering purposes.

Some sites list them as 2/1 springs, others as 3 leaf.

Depending on the manufacturer, they will be rated for 850 or 1000 lbs.

Here are some sites to check out.

Auto and Truck Springs - Ford Ranger Truck 2wd,4wd Leaf Spring, Rear
General Spring - 1986 - 2006 Ford Ranger leaf springs
The Suspension King

JC Whitney also has springs but I don't remember what ones they have. Check in your phone book too for local spring companies. Since springs are long and heavy, shipping charges might tip the price over what a local shop would charge. That is what made the decision to go local for mine.
