Default Tie Rods, Ball joints etc.

With so many members who has the best experience in purchasing tie rod end assemblies? Someone out there must have a decent kit for a competitive price.

have you looked on rockauto.com ? i get a lot of my parts there and they are usually higher quality and a little cheaper than advance auto parts. but with the shipping costs it comes out to about the same prices. but the quality and brands are much better

i have been disappointing with moog. I installed moog balljoints and tie rods on my truck recently and within a week one of my tie rod boots is torn completely open. Also, one of the ball joints is very stiff and has added some memory to my steering. Its not bad at road speeds but at parking lot speeds the wheel does not return to center. Not sure if i will buy moog again.

I need new ball joints and tie rod ends, so I'm bringing this thread back.

Does anybody know if $1,100 is a good price for getting Moog upper and lower ball joints installed as well as the inner and outer tie rods? That's at an STS tire center near home.

I got another estimate for $1,400 from another guy I've used before, also for Moog parts.

1,100 is high i think. does that include an alignment? if not then its a terrible deal.

and as long as they have a grease fitting, then they are much better than stock IMO

The $1,100 does include an alignment and the parts are Moog, which have grease fittings. Normally I try to fix things myself, but I've been told that the ball joints are a bitch to change out and I don't want to screw up the suspension on my daily driver.

i changed them myself and it is a bitch but wasnt that complicated. i took the lower a-arms out and pressed the ball joints out with my dads 12 ton press. it took me about 3-4 hours per side with the help of my dad. then i just had to pay $65 for an alignment.

but anyway thats still a little high IMO but depending on where you live i guess maybe not

I don't have a press here, and I don't know anybody that does... hell, I don't even have a garage to work in. For the 3-4 hours per side and in the cold, I think I'll have to take it to the shop and deal with the cost.

Thanks for that info.

Most parts stores have loaner tools, and you can get the ball joint press there. But, yeah, 3 - 4 hours per side in the cold ain't really worth it to me either.
