Default 248,000 miles and torsion bars - worn out?

My son's '06 FX4 has shiny spots on the control arms where the bump stops are hitting frequently. We replaced the shocks with Bilstein upgrades about a year ago, so that shouldn't be the issue. The truck has a noticeable lean to the passenger side where it is about 3/4" lower than the right.

I have never owned another vehicle with torsion bar suspension, so I don't know the life span. If this was a vehicle with coil springs, I would assume the springs were sagging and need replacement.

Is this a situation where you just "crank up" the torsion bars to get the vehicle level and up off the snubbers, or do we replace them? If the latter, are there "better" options than stock?

We'll probably be putting a remanufactured engine into this within the next 6-12 months, so I don't mind spending money on maintenance, particularly given the cost of used cars right now....

Anyone? Was I too long-winded in my original post?

Torsion bars do wear out just like any other metal part under fatigue. I would most likely replace them. Especially if I could do the work myself, I have no idea what that would cost at a shop. But I've replaced almost all of my suspension on my 92 by myself with hand tools. I wouldn't recommend the hand tool part but I did save a lot of money and I have an almost brand new chassis on a 92

There are different torsion bars, some I believe are stronger than others. Ford had a few different stock sizes I believe, it's been a long time since I've studied this. So if your truck came with weaker bars, you might be able to buy the stronger bars
