248,000 miles and torsion bars - worn out?
My son's '06 FX4 has shiny spots on the control arms where the bump stops are hitting frequently. We replaced the shocks with Bilstein upgrades about a year ago, so that shouldn't be the issue. The truck has a noticeable lean to the passenger side where it is about 3/4" lower than the right.
I have never owned another vehicle with torsion bar suspension, so I don't know the life span. If this was a vehicle with coil springs, I would assume the springs were sagging and need replacement.
Is this a situation where you just "crank up" the torsion bars to get the vehicle level and up off the snubbers, or do we replace them? If the latter, are there "better" options than stock?
We'll probably be putting a remanufactured engine into this within the next 6-12 months, so I don't mind spending money on maintenance, particularly given the cost of used cars right now....
