Default Old Hardware with Bilstein Shocks?

2003 FX4 4WD

My Bilstein 4600 shocks didn't come with any hardware so I am attempting to use what was already on the old shocks - any problem with that?

Also, my rear shocks are installed but on the front I can't seem to get the upper nut to tighten down - it just ends up spinning the "inner rod" of the shock. Do I assume I am tight enough?

All shocks that I have seen have a shape on the end of the upper attachment that allows you to hold the threaded portion from spinning while you tighten the nut properly. Many have a flattened portion that you can use an adjustable wrench on. I don't remember what shape Bilstein uses. The old hardware is likely OK if the rubber is still in good condition.

It has been sooooo long since I've purchased a 4600 front shock that I cannot remember if they come with hardware or not...however, it SHOULD have came with all hardware necessary to install. This includes the bushings AND the washers AND the nuts. If it didn't come with hardware, your package was miss-packed.

Anywho, the 4600's and most aftermarket stock replacement shocks have a slot on the threaded shaft to keep it in place and to prevent from spinning. I know for sure the 4600's do because I had them. I always used an open end wrench of whatever size to keep it at bay while torquing the nut and compressing the bushing.
