Ok so I’ve replaced my lower control arms and the torsion key isolator pads and didn’t mark where the bars were originally installed. How hard could it be I thought, the ends of the torsion bars are hex so there’s only maybe 6 positions that will allow the key to be reinstalled. Well this is my third try and the truck is still sitting on the damn bump stops. There’s only 6 ways the bars fit into the control arms and for each position there’s only one position where the key has any chance of working properly otherwise it’ll let the suspension drop or require way too much force to reinstall.

I’ve tried positioning the bar in the control arm where it would put the most pressure on the key and it does take a fair amount of pressure with a 2 jaw puller to get the adjustment nut back in. I do notice the keys are a bit loose and rotate just a bit on the ends of the bars. One replacement control arm had a lot of play in the socket for the torsion bar so I used some sheet metal to make a sleeve that fit around the torsion bar keeping it snug in the arm. The polyurethane part of the isolator pads were pretty much flattened and crumbling so maybe the keys are worn? All I know is I can’t be resting on the front bump stops. Prior to this the truck had maybe an inch between the lower control arm and the stock front bump stops with the torsion adjustment screw maybe 2/3-3/4 screwed in.
