balljoint replacement
my 99 hit 166000 km and my lower balljoints are starting to go, i have bought new ones and now i am wondering how hard it is to change them? i have been told to remove the retaining clip and just pound it out, i have also heard the lower control arm needs to be removed. any help would be great. also my truck is a 4x4
thanks

you dont have to remove the LCA, just get a BFH and pound the lowers out. its pretty easy to do.

Re: balljoint replacement
i recently did this job. i recommend putting the ball joints in the freezer until just before you install them. I did this on one side and it was a hundred times easier installing a cold ball joint compared with a room temp one.

Re: balljoint replacement
Don't forget to grease those puppies too. If it has a zirc fitting, waiting until they are in is fine, if not add grease before hand. They never put enough grease in them while manufacturing them. Any extra you put in there will ooze out but that's fine. Better too much than not enough.
