Rythmic clunking in front
1998 4x4 85k. Driving home tonight a clunking sound started coming from what I thought was my right front wheel. Hubs locked but in 2wd. My first thought was wheel bearing. No clunk when hitting bumps just a rythmic clunk as I was moving. I started driving very slowly to try to just get home. I found as I drove faster the clunk seemed to go away. Then as I slowed down again it came back. I think from previous experience a bad wheel bearing would give me a clunk on a bump. Also braking had no effect. I then suspected an axle? I'm in CT and it's rather cold out so I will be under there tomorrow but I'm throwing this out here tonight so maybe someone could give some insight or suggest a starting point. Thanks in advance.
Went back out in the cold and unlocked the hubs. Forward and reverse a couple times heard a slight clunk from right front and now no clunk when driving. So... Is the locking hub bad? Or when it's locked is it annoying the axle and making IT clunk? I also noticed a rubbing sound when doing a left hand circle but not right. Any suggestions appreciated. oh and when I first got the truck six months ago I lost the left hub and replaced it so I have no idea of the age of the right one in question Thank you.
