Default Clunking Noise from front end.

So I have been driving lately and started hearing a clunking noise form the front of the vehicle. It is coming from the suspension. I've seen people on hear talk about doors being lose, there is no way that the doors are lose. Any suggestions on what to look at and how to look at it. Its a 2009 FX4 Ford ranger so its 4x4. It has the 4.0 SOHC and most of the stuff up front is rather new its only about 30,000 miles on the new parts. To explain the sound when going over small or large bumps in the road the front end makes a noise, it is a loud clunking noise but repeats multiple times like a rubber band 3 or 4 times than stops. Some bumps do turn the steering wheel but there is not play in the wheel. Thanks.

Look for a loose or broken shock also check your sway bar links to see if one is broken.

I just solved the same problem on my '99 Ranger. The top mount bushing on the original shock was some sort of hard plastic, rather than the normal rubber mount. It had deteriorated and was bouncing around on every bump. I replaced the shock, but a new upper rubber bushing was all that was really needed.

Yeah After taking my tire off I noticed the plastic around my shock was cracked but it looked like my bushing for my upper control arm are shot. Any clue as to what ramifications would happen if I delayed fixing this. As well as any good videos on how to do it.

You could destroy your tires, ball joints, steering components, ect... But if your control arm bushings are shot and your shocks are cracked chances are your ball joints and other components are close to death anyway.

My advice would be to fix the shock first because it is very easy. The visible part of my upper shock bushing looked fine, but the lower part which is not visible was nearly gone. The shock work does not require alignment, nor is it necessary to replace both front shocks if only one is bad.
