Dang. Oh well, once less rare & expensive part to worry about wearing out. :-)

Whoa.

This has been super helpful in getting me oriented to what I actually have.

Now I have to go back to the question about what to do to replace my worn-out shocks...

You gave me PNs for "low budge" oem replacements, and it doesn't sound like that would be much better of an option than generic Monroe or Gabriel shocks..

Any other options you'd recommend?

not really, either Monroe or KYB. I can tell you the motorcraft ones have a 2 year warranty on them. Not sure on the aftermarket ones

Default "High Ryder Option w/ FX4 Bilstein Suspension"

Just to close out this thread, I ended up getting a set of Bilstein 4600’s from Tirerack.com (best price I could find and quick shipping).

Easy installation and WOW what a difference in ride quality. The truck had the original shocks as far as i know and now it is much more of a pleasure to drive, particularly on uneven pavement.

Lane changes on the freeway no longer require holding my breath and squeezing my butt cheeks, and the truck no longer dips and weaves like Mohammad Ali while taking a bumpy turn.

There is no such thing as a so-called "high ryder" for ANY 98+.

Your Level II sits no different than an regular old 4x4 for your model year.....or any 98+ for that matter.

Jussayin'.

As for parts, the Ford numbers are no different than regular Ranger 4x4 Bilstein 4600 parts.....except *claimed* valving values for Ford Level II "spec".

Just buy stock replacements for Ranger 4x4 your year.
