Default Ranger down!

Well it’s been a hot minute since I made a post on here but it’s good to be back but sad to see how slow the page has become, regardless I'm hoping that whoever is still around on this forum could help me out.

My Ranger has been through a lot of labor in its time even just as a little 2wd. She's moved more furniture than you can imagine. She's hauled countless loads of wood, mulch, stone. We've even moved our fair share of people, pumpkins and beer haha. But all this work started to pay a price on my suspension and I noticed but didn't pay any mind to it. I remember asking my grandfather about it and how I should take care of it but he would just say "It’s a truck, just drive it till you can't, it will last a while." well awhile is over now. Drove the Ranger to work hit a bump and heard the nice loud bang of the shackle cleaning itself off of the frame. It has been about two months since my truck has become immobile… Around the time I noticed the truck was lopsided I bought a 95 Crown Vic, figured the Ranger needed a break. 20k miles later the Vic is on its last legs, burning oil, running hot, cat clogged a week ago shot a hole in the exhaust right after the header (sounds fantastic). despite all those issues that boat somehow managed 25mpg so no complaints besides its likelihood to live through another winter, but the car did its job.

The Ranger was my first truck, my first vehicle in fact. Therefore, the truck has sentimental value to me and seeing it in disrepair hurts. The memories I have with it are too good to just throw the truck to scrap. When I see it I just remember the countless random road trips, camping trips, all the crazy times I pilled people into the bed to drive from party to party, people loved to ride in the bed. Taking the Ranger to the drive-in, friends chairs blankets and all in the bed, sitting on the cab so we could see over everyone. Driving the Ranger in the snow taught me how to drift basically because lake effect snow, 2wd, and cheap highway tires are a hell of a combo. The Ranger and I have been to Hell and back but always with a smile and those emotions and memories are my motivation to fix it. Also, my mom doesn’t want it parked at her house anymore so the time has come to fix it or scrap it those were my options, she’s not getting scrapped.

I apologize for the length of this but the Ranger means a lot to me and I wanted to share that with you guys because I feel a bunch of you are the same way.

But to get to my point now I’m hoping I could get some insight on what it may cost me to do this list of repairs. All of it needs done I imagine because of the amount of time I drove it around all crooked. Thanks so much guys and glad I could share.

-Rear shackles both sides
-Leaf springs both sides
-rear shocks.

Thanks man I appreciate it, now all I can wonder is what labor might be if I can't get it done myself, I'm a little limited to the work I can do with my lack of power tools.

Lol, I had to go back and re-read it. I was thinking I got 25 out of my 2.5l 5spd Ranger. 25 out of a failing Crown Vic? I gotta agree, no way.

My wife's car for about 10 years was Crown Vic and for a 4000 lb full size car it still got 19 mpg and could lay rubber when punched. LOL

You don't have to believe me but most of the miles I drive are freeway so Im typically doing 50-70 miles an hour for most of my tank of gas. With high gearing in the rear end and a V8 under the hood the car is barely working. I would say that the 25 mpg isn't average, Im just trying to show off my boat, on average regular driving with some city, mainly freeway, I get about 21, but on nearly every road trip I've taken in the vic or any tank that was primarily freeway I would average 24-26 mpg.

I even have screenshots of the numbers on my phone because I was shocked myself and had to show it to my folks lol. Sorry if I upset you guys but its all in how you drive the car.

Too bad the crown vic forum got shutdown I would have left all the vic stuff out. But you two guys giving me **** about this has been pressing me for a few days now. The social media claim made me almost **** myself. I have gone through this phase where I noticed social media is a bunch of bs and its full of people who just want to lie their way up just to get some clout or its just people showing how much better they are doing than you are. Lying is a waste of my ******* time and energy, its also a waste of yours. I deleted all my social media because I was sick of dealing with people who want to tell lies, and throw shade at other people, I was sick of all the bs. So heres a few pics of some **** and my vic in every state its been in from its best to its worst, also ill throw a pic of the truck the way it is now if you don't believe that its broke too, or just a social media claim.

Couldn't find my calculator screenshots from the road trips but found some random crown vics that averaged what I was able to, all 77k miles tracked and look at that just about 25 mpg.

Do yourselves a favor next time and do a little research, I understand your wife was driving one for ten years but maybe she was driving it like a 16 year old kid instead of an 80 year old woman. if you give that gas pedal a quarters thickness of gas it will cruise on up to 45 with ease, shake my head I'm sad I had to do this on the forum but **** it I'm sick of getting bs everywhere I go, welcome to my life.

here you go bud, because I don't feel like typing some **** again just read upward and take a gander at the pics if you want.

Although the car is failing if you do daily maintenance such as checking how much oil is in the engine and how much coolant is in the reservoir she will run like a top.

My favorite one besides the fuel economy is the one where my control arm ripped out and you see the car on the ground with that hilarious caption, ah the life of a broke college kid, full of lies and deception and not full of money.

well thanks for the actual help from the guy that got me the idea on price to fix the truck, I appreciate it. and to the rest suck a **** for all that negativity you caused.

Replacing all of the parts yourself is very manageable, and the only power tool you will likely need is an angle grinder to grind down the rivets on the rear shackle to replace it (you could use a file, but work smarter not harder). Everything else is just some bolts and good ol elbow grease. Even if you take breaks and mess around, the whole job should take less than a day to complete.

In my world, maintenance is more than just those two items. But then I am not claiming mid-twenties MPG out of a crown vic. No two ways about it, it is fantastic. EPA estimate was 23, all highway, on a new car. But what do I know eh bud?
