Clunking noise ended up being door hinge
I just got new tires and an alignment, and have developed a really bad sounding clunk, sounds like left front suspension. I get it somewhat randomly, going over bumps, braking, accelerating. I tried to Check ball joints, and didn't identify any problem. Found and cleaned up a little play in the wheel bearing. Was ready to get into the brakes, figuring a sticking brake pad, but first, I have a badly sagging drivers side door. Replacing pins and bushings looks involved, but I used some washers to shim the hinge on the door side. Amazingly, i havent heard the noise since. Im kind of just waiting until it comes back, but maybe that was it. I am cautiously optimistic. In a couple weeks, i think i really will change the pins and bushings. I want to avoid wearing the holes in the hinge or I may need new hinges to eventually fix it.
So... sometimes bad noises are not suspension issues!
