New rear leafs

So after much research, I have decided to purchase new leafs rather than rearching or AALs. ? Is should I get new explorer leafs or stock Ranger leafs? Which will meet my needs? i.e. Increase pay load and haul a small trailor 5x8. Will the explorer leaf give me that and reduce sag over time. Any thoughts on year and model of explorer?

The Explorer leafs are under axle, Ranger is over the axle.

Check with rock auto.. My first set of HD leafs came from there. went from 1100lb springs (3 spring back stock) to a 1750 springs (5 leaf pack, NO AAL setup) and I generally carry 400+ lbs of gear or more plus a 290lb Flip-Pac. They were about $80 ea if i recall, may have to verify that.

I've had it full from top to bottom including engine parts and/or full complete suspension parts, misc tools and personal affects, and a 16x8 tandem axle from Uhaul with two motorcycles and other shit in the back. Made a haul uphill on the Cajone pass from Chino Hills/Irvine areas back to vegas, NO issues NO sag.. barely knew anything was behind me shy of the trailer being as long as my Std cab truck.. lol

Expo leaf springs have a slightly higher payload rating than the stiffest stock ranger springs. I would imagine they would suit your needs.

As far as year/model explorer, any 4-door Explorer from 95-01. If I remember correctly, all the 4 doors got the same leaf pack.

Thanks for the input. I am going to order the HD 1750 lbs ones from RockAuto as the highest rating for Expos I found was 1250 lbs.

I’m sure I’ll get a stiffer ride when not loaded but nothing a couple sand bags won’t cure lol. What shocks are you running on your 93 Undrstm8ed?

Fox 2.0's BUT.. I am working with an opportunity through 12° North Industries to migrate over to a custom setup using a Deaver Spring pack designed/built for overlanding payload needs based upon similar functionality of doing a Chevy 54" Spring setup for just a bit more articulation wants.

And If things go well, I may be a guinea pig of sorts for a Icon Dynamics shocks. Not sure if I'll afford the external reservoirs on the rears but the ability to have rebuildable shocks is a nice thought. Eventually I think what I'll do is rather than spend the money on the X-reservoirs, I'll just get into a second set and swap out when ones being rebuilt.
It will still will be along the guidelines of a 2.0 based shock they offer now for rears and a same for fronts; only those will have the external reservoirs, just meant for my needs and hopes of creating a new product SKU with them. Will see how it all comes together or not. lol

Lots of work to do in order to get that ball rolling. Input, feedback, some cash flow, and of course time management. The exciting part is the opportunity to build something NEW for an older platform with some great people. Time & money is key though.
