Edge front shocks, can't get them?
Looking at new shocks, but i'm running into some ambiguity with the front shocks with my truck being a RWD Edge.
I saw the Gabriel Ultra's were supposed to be a good shock at a reasonable price, but despite autozones page suggesting a model number for the front, Gabriels page said excluding Edge.
So now i'm confused as to what i'm supposed to fit on the front of the Edge with torsion bars?

I have a 4x4 edge, front suspension has torsion bars as well, but I found shocks at rockauto.com

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
Out of curiosity, I looked at the Rock Auto site. They have shocks listed for some sort of "HighRyder" option. I love it when I run into made up terms. Anyone know what this vague option might be? I'm assuming they might be talking about the RWD "Edge"?
FWIW, it looks like they have front shocks for a RWD Edge under the heavy duty header.

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
I like to confirm with the manufacturer listings when it starts getting weird like this.
The best i can find at the moment, is that the front shocks on an Edge 2WD, are the same as the front shocks on a regular 4WD.

I'm pretty sure that's correct.

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
Just took a look under the rear, it appears it has Monroe Spectrums (on the back at least)
Does anyone know if these are aftermarket fitted? or originals?

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
As far as I know, Ford only put Motorcraft shocks on their vehicles, so I vote that the Monroe Spectrums are aftermarket replacements. I also believe the Edge front shocks are the same as a 4x4. I also believe the Edge is considered heavy duty.

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
Thanks, i'm also assuming the 4x4 shocks would automatically be classed "heavy duty" ?
Would be good to know how long these shocks have been on, but i don't think that's possible.
Looks like Spectrum Reflexes on the front.

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
I would say, when in doubt, replace them. I most likely will improve the ride and handling.

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
Yeah, i will have to do some basic checking on their handling/bouncing, i don't think they're bad, per sé, but who knows how many miles are on them.
I've said before, though i'd love Bilsteins, i'm not paying for them on this truck, i just can't justify the expense for how little use they'll get, so i'm open to votes for a "best bang for buck" suggestions.

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
I am planning on replacing mine later this fall. My son replaced his soon after he bought his 1999 XLT 4x4. His had the original shocks, and at 111K it was a no-brainer about replacing them. He put a set of Gabriel shocks from Rock Auto on it and it is doing great. Cost him about $75.00. Cheap? Yes, but his won't see much (if any) off-road action.

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
75 for all 4?! Wow, yes that's cheap!
I've seen people rate the Gabriel Ultra's, spendier than that for the set, and for sure the originals will be shot to pieces by 111k
Fortunately the chances of these being anywhere near that are low, just can't determine at what point someone said, hey, this thing bounces.....

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
Alright, might have found a "save" here.
Having found that people were saying Sensa Tracs were good, i wondered why they weren't available, reason being, because they were discontinued not too long ago, after Monroe made their OESpectrum line available to all domestic vehicles in very late 2014.
http://www.monroe.com/press/en-US/mo...te-models.html
This means that the shocks can't be more than 3 years old, and based on the current mileage and the mileage in 2013 (mileage one year before these Spectrums were available) it looks like they can't be more than 20k on the current shocks.

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
Sounds like this has become a non-issue. If the shocks only have 20K miles or so, unless one or more were mechanically damaged somehow, you should be good for at least another 40K.

Re: Edge front shocks, can't get them?
Exactly, though with how easy they are to change, I was kinda looking forward to doing them
Probably for the best as I need to not spend money for a while
