Default SAS or Long Travel suspension?

I'm still up in arms about a suspension system that works for my needs and wants based upon the use of the truck. My goal is to have two trucks, one with the Flip-Pac Overlanding setup I have now and a second build with a flatbed Overlanding rig. Eventually the wifes car will be my beater as we get her a newer lease vehicle so the truck(s) wont necessarily be daily grinder(s), more so just adventures and expedition vehicles in spare time or short trips on weekends.

So while I have an idea that long travel is a bit mushy for the highway, I am certain I could find a happy medium to deal with so long as I dont make any knee jerk movements. And then I could utilize that suspension to still crawl over things somewhat. I dont necessarily rock crawl and although a doubled up transfer case has crossed my mind without real researching the need other than rock crawling. If I want to off-camber climbs and obstacles that tilt you pass over a fallen tree or some smaller rocks I should be able to have the suspension travel and stability to do so.... even with some off-camber ledge work with a sand dunes in the mix

right?

Outside of that, I am still learning about SAS and what it would offer as far as more or less abilities, road manners, at some point cost factors, and beings both trucks will likely be TTB how much does that affect either direction?

The truck(s) are in Vegas, I randomly make commutes to SoCal and yet would like to do more Trail heads than say a full run at MOAB worst If you know what I mean.

I don't think I'll run much past 35's as now I am going outside of what the vehicles intent is really for which is mostly camping [anywhere] and Overlanding uses. So reliability and durability are key. Not to say something can't break and have to deal with it I just dont want the "roadster" of trucks where I fix it every week so I can use it 1 weekend a month. Remaining spontaneous to the thought of the woman says I want out of town now.. we can throw the fridge and our bags in the back and dash out the drive in 15-20 mins and be gone....

Thoughts? What am I not thinking/considering enough?

Hey James!

I've seen your truck countless times, personally I think a Skyjacker lift with 35's and bigger leafs would be more than enough. Then a body lift and re-gear. Those TTB front ends are pretty solid.

Try and make it out for KOH, I think the races start next weekend but the smaller events are going on right now.

First, what is KOH? lol

second.. I'm considering what Solo Motorsport offers in a mid-travel setup only with their 4" springs vs my 2" Daystar 2" leveling kit front end and shit shocks that beat the hell out of me on corrugations. Its not so bad when I air down to 18-15lbs but for the daily grind, I generally roll with 46-54lbs because I am always loaded with gear and ready to go at a moments notice if I want.

Never know when you might find a killer scenic spot for a nights camping.

Figured out what I am going to do.. Starts with a Dana 35 and some longer radius arms from Solo Motorsports.

I'm working on being able to resale their parts... so we'll see what their jobber or wholesale pricing is like. But if they have a ridiculous buy in, not looking to do that. When I had the tuner shop, I made the jump in with HKS for a $35k buy in.. I didn't get much but a huge dent in the company account.

Just starting out here in Vegas with the company, NOT looking to soak my capital into a huge overhead factor...

From what I've seen solo doesn't generally do too many discounts. They seem to believe that their stuff is worth the asking price. Threat Motorsports on the other hand gives a lot of discounts. I know quite a few people who get deals with them.

Not to get off track too much but. Many companies who are in business due to production of their own parts will always be like that. Sad thing is, sometimes a company will rarely grow beyond its minimal demographic or primary marketing areas because of said pricing.

EDITED due to "safe space" TOS violations....

1.) its my thread to start with, its not like I jacked it.

2.) if you didn't take the time to read it.. why you all so upset over it... MOVE ON already geezus.

Who cares if it had a slightly political shadow cast to to it. Just added opinion based upon some lesser known facts to some if not many and just like the TV, if you don't like whats on.. TURN the damn channel. Maybe someone did read it and got something out of it or not said anything. Apparently 237 views and you were the only complainer.

3.) you could have been a man about it and maybe PM'd me about it and in a decent conversation more adult like I may have seen your perspective for it being a bit more off topic than intended and I could have revised it or just deleted it all together.. NOPE!

You came in on my thread, jacked it, and then proceeded to bus drive me and the post like a tattle tale telling little brother or sister trying to make a federal case of it.

Maybe you should seek out your safe space now...

And just to throw it out there..

This could have been an actual helpful thread for people but if you want to change it to something that has absolutely nothing to with ford Rangers go ahead.

Not sure what you're trying to point out? I've been on here a long time and I comment when it looks like I can help which is why I originally commented here to recommend threat motorsports. Also I've sent lots of messages here so idk what that 0 is for. Either way my activity on this forum doesn't mean anything. You posted a totally pointless comment on something that has nothing to do with ford rangers which is the point of this forum. Take that garbage somewhere else.

Attempt at resurrection as it now gets even more complicated..

Weight concerns as now rather than follow plans of a future S/C 4.0L OHV.. I am strongly considering a 4BT Cummins swap.., and it aint lightweight, in fact Its likely another 300lbs heavier engine so some frame mods will certainly be necessary. I may need to take a whole lot more into consideration now.

Some input will be needed..

Unless you actually know what you're doing then I wouldn't attempt a 4bt with long travel unless you want to shell out the $$$$ for someone else to do it and even then I would be weary about that. And considering you are asking a forum whether you should do sas or long travel you probably don't know what you're doing so I would recommend that if you want a 4bt then do a sas.
