Default Looking to upgrade suspension for heavier loads

My 1993 Ford Ranger has 227K miles and I've ressurected it back from my farm. It's been sitting idle for about 16 months, and after a change of the battery it started right up! I've love this truck.

Now to my question. I'm a part-time horseshoer and will be putting some weight in the back along with a contractor cap. What do you all think my course is to allow my truck to handle this weight?

Thanks for your help!
Jeff

Depends on what the weight is. The standard spring rating for the rear is 1250 lbs a side. There are web sites that sell ones rated for 1750 lbs. You'll need to run a google search though. I can't remember the exact term I used, something like "Ranger+leaf+springs" or something along those lines.

I have a 1993 Ranger xl as well, I carry a 100 gallon water tank and a 350lb auto detailing skid. I upgraded to the 4 pack leaf spring kit, add a leaf and skyjacker shocks and it has held for over 4 years driving across PA throughout NJ and I've never had any issues with it.

So, where would everyone suggest going to to purchase a new leaf package? JC Whitney? or a spring shop? We have a great local spring company.

Do some shopping for the best price. Quality should be that same and you won't get killed with the shipping charges if you go local. Leaf springs are not light or small. You could get dinged for both.

I paid 140$ out the door from JCWhitney for the four pack leafs and run Bilstein shocks. I is a pool guy and run with 300-500 lbs in the back all day and have no sag in my bag. I also went with Firestone LT tires.

Here's more info.

Compare these prices to what you can get locally (if at all) and consider shipping and handling in the price. The JC Whitney springs seem more expensive but I didn't look at shipping. They may be on par or cheaper.

Hope this works. This is my truck today with 700+ lbs in the back, a little sag, but it looks like its levering the front up more.
