Default Leaf spring bushing question

Ok after getting ahold of some new shackles and getting the old leaf spring bushings out, the new bushing that they sent me have this outer metal sleeve around the bushing that makes it too big to fit into the spring. The rubber bushing itself is perfect size, but this metal sleeve is making it too big to fit into spring. Should I press the rubber out of this sleeve and install, or try to find new bushing(although this is all my parts store could get me)?

I had the same problem on mine. The metal sleeve is supposed to stay on. The bushing I bought from the part store was for the front of the spring and they didn't carry the bushing for the rear of it. I luckily found a spring shop that had it, the rear chassis mount and the shackles. I would call some spring shops and see what they have. Here's a link to the place I purchased mine from http://www.brightonspring.com/.

I don't have an answer to your question, but rather a question about your changing the bushings. How do you tell that your bushings were bad? Symptoms.... obvious wear? I have this situation where I hit a bump and my back end kind of shimmy to the side or excessively bounces. Shocks are new.

The Rangers had the metal sleeve on the bushings as well. I bet if you look, it is still in the eye of the spring. When I changed mine on my '97, I had to drive the metal sleeve out.

The only reason I changed mine out was when I replaced my shocks I noticed that the shackle mounts had rusted and snapped. My leaf springs where resting on the bed of the truck. I ended up installing new mounts, shackles, and all the bushings. The bushings might of been ok but I figured since I'm already doing that much work I might as well replace them to. I took a metal pipe the size of the outside of the bushing and a small sledge hammer and beat the old ones out.
