Need some advice on a lift
Okay so i'm 17 and not real experienced with lifts, but i want to get a cheap lift for my 01 Ranger EDGE 2wd. I want to hear some suggestions. Is a body lift or suspension lift better? I just want a 3" lift btw. I am looking to go cheap on this so dont be suggesting $2k lifts lol. I just want a 3" lift so i can fit a set of 32" BF mud terrains on it without any rubbing. Thanks in advence for suggestions! If you want any other info on the truck just ask!

Re: Need some advice on a lift
Search around here: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/lifted-suspension/
You'll find the general conclusion is that suspension lifts are always better, but generally more expensive. A 2WD suspension lift isn't much more expensive than a body lift, so you're in luck.
The most popular setup for a 2WD edge is:
- $300ish spindle lift (for front)
- $50ish belltech 6400 shackles or an AAL (for fear).
You'll have room for 32s, although you might want to look at 33s as well.

Re: Need some advice on a lift
I have heard a few people say that if you add bigger tires you will have to change the gears in your axle or get new axles. is this true?

there's a sticker on the inside of your door
look at the axle code and then look that up
example I have a R6 rear axle
Which is the axle code for the 8.8 LS with 3.73 gears

Re: Need some advice on a lift
Axle gears will address issues with vehicle speed, etc but you will still place additional stress on the transmission and u-joints when you go to a larger diameter wheel/tire. Which also translates to lower towing capacity. If you do go with bigger tires get a winch installed to pull stuff out of mud, etc. (which should be the case anyway)...

You should visit the local trans shop for a rebuild quote and save for it -
