Default Crunching sound

Ok, im gonna assume this is the right place to ask this question. I was taking my truck out on some back roads in the desert near where I live, and occasionaly, when i could tell teh suspension was close to, or bottoming out from some harsh bumps, there would be a crunching sound from the front suspension.

I think this was from the A-arms scraping the ground but I want to make sure it would be from my shocks or anything. And while Im on the subject, whats a good shock to replace the crappy stock ones on an '06 4x4 Ranger Sport?

Any good name brand truck shock will do, unless you plan on liftin' it. Lift first then shock, you might need to go longer.

Nah, I dont plan on lifting it at the moment. The suspension lift kits Ive seen for my 06 4x4 Ranger Sport will end up costing 2/3 of what my long travel suspension will end up costing me. I just want a better shock there until I get my long travel. Or is that a dumb idea still?

Do the shock test, get a fat friend to jump up and down on one corner and if it doesn't stop bouncing within three rebounds, replace them with any brand name light truck shock.

I talked to a few guys from work that are into trucks. I think the sound was my tires rubbing on the wheel well.

I do intend to get some Pro-Comp shocks to replace the stock ones here soon though.
