Default Bad Rake after new spring install

Hey guys/gals, I recently replaced all four of the rear leaf hangers/shackes because all four were about completely rusted off the frame. The truck sat almost dead level before I began this project. I ended up buying new rear leafs for the truck because of some issues with the stock springs which only have 2 main leafs and one overload leaf in them. The new leafs which i bought from jcwhitney have 3 main leafs and 1 overload leaf. I didn't think that these would be much taller if any than the original leafs, but boy was I wrong. The truck runs downhill very badly now. I bet the rear is nearly 3 to 4 inches higher than the front. So my question is, do i remove the stock block from under the new springs and add some washers to the front, or is there a taper on the stock block that the rear axle needs for correct driveshaft alignment?

You can remove the stock block, no problem.

Remember, new springs are gonna take a lil while to settle in, so if it's still got a lil rake to it after pulling the block, give it some time, and put some miles on it before you mess with the front.

Thanks, I will probably still add the washers to lift the front because I think the main reason it was level before is becuase the rear shackles were broken off and not sitting up at true height. So after removing blocks it will still have a rake I am sure cause it looks like i have a suspension lift only on the rear of the truck right now. So I will level it out with washers up front, and over time if rear settles some, then I can remove washers as needed to compensate as well. Thanks again.

Well I removed the stock blocks last night, and the truck is much better now. Only thing is I need shorter U-bolts now to bolt everything back up? Can I use U-bolts from a 2wd since they came factory without the 4wd block? Hope I can find someone on the forums with some extra 2wd U-bolts so I can get it back on the road soon. Thanks,

BigDan

You can get u-bolt from your local auto parts store, now that you know what length you need. Or 2wd u-bolts.
