Default New Leaf Spring & Hanger Install

Hey guys, just got done replacing the front & rear hangers/shackles on the rear of my 97 Ranger. I also bought new 4 leaf pack springs from JC Whitney as well. My question is since I have the bed off, can I go ahead and tighten all the bolts on the springs up now or do I need to reinstall the bed for the added resting weight? Or can I just tighten everything up as it sits now on the ground with no bed? Reason is that i know you have to wait and have truck resting on the ground and the suspension is to be at normal resting condition before tightening up all the bolts and shackle bolts, but without the bed it isn't truly at resting condition without the extra weight of the bed? Also, where besides the stealership can I get new bed bolts...not paying 15 bucks a piece for them. Also trying to find one bed clip that broke as well. Napa has some online that look the same, but I will have to verify if they are actually large enough for the bed bolts though. Thanks.

Why would it make a difference whether the vehicle is resting or not for the shackle bolts? The springs and parts are going to rotate no matter if the vehicle is resting or up in the air. I can see where the u-bolts for the axle to spring mounts would make a difference...

You always tighten suspension bolts under load. If I were to tighten the rear shackle bolts at the spring to shackle connection with it sitting in the air, then the shakle would bind and never acutally reach it's true resting position because once those bolts are tight, that shackle will not move much if any. All my Superduty leafs that came with my superlift kit all had to be tightened with the full weight of the truck on the ground so the leafs could settle to their resting position before fully tightening. Those trucks are much heavier than these little guys are, so that's the reason for my question.

Take one of your bed bolts in to a fastener specialty shop and they will find a direct replacement for it. They even have stainless for some applications. I just had to spend a lot of time in my shop finding bolts for a 1962 Allis Chalmers D15 tractor I was redoing. These guys were fantastic.

Thanks, for the info, but I just bought a set of tap & dies from harbor freight for like 10 bucks and retapped all the existing bolts so they looked almost new again and just reused those. Plus now I have a 40 piece metric tap and die set to use.
