Noone makes a 'real' off road shocks that is a direct bolt on to a ranger, at least that I can find. For a truck with an 'off road' reputation, that's some weak shit. Shouldn't have to spend four digit money on shocks and custom mounts to have real-world performance. I'm going back to a silverado next year.

I live in NJ, nobody has worse roads than we do. We build the roads with potholes already in them. We install sewer lids 4" below the road surface - ON THE HIGHWAY. Our roads are so shitty that even the trails and dirt roads are full of potholes. I have yet to bust any of my shocks; Bilsteins in the rear and Monroe's up front.

Re: Bilsteins NO GOOD
lol. Is your gravel driveway 780km long? If not, shut up. The point is I shouldn't have to make major modifications to my truck and spend thousands in suspension components to make it suitable for 'offroad' highway driving. Nobody else up here is blowing up shocks. Unsurprisingly, nobody has ever heard of bilstein. So for those people who actually use their trucks, listening to people on this forum is probably a roll of the dice. Bilstein = junk.

Re: Bilsteins NO GOOD
So you drive 484 miles every day down gravel roads? Is my driveway 484 miles long? No but I imagine your gravel road is no worse than the SINGLE LANE unmaintained one I drive everyday. I also tow more than that little pissant trailer bullshit you have.
You are not special either buy some good shocks not the base model built for everyone shocks or just leave. Bilstein doesn't make bad shocks you did however purchase cheap shocks. Want something to last when heavily used? Buy the 7125 series. Until then you have no fucking idea what you are talking about.

I'm running Bilstein 5100's and have never had issues, but then again I rarely offroad. All I hear is great things about them.
Looking at your guys conversation, could climate affect how they perform? Seems like you both put them through their paces and had completely different experiences.

I hope there's a gas station halfway down your driveway cuz 480-some miles is a bit out of my 20gallon tank's range

I doubt its that much colder out by him than me. Climate will be similar with his being a hair colder. Difference is he is using inadequate shocks for what he is using the truck for.
I also have shocks that are 2-3x the cost of his remember that as well. Right now he owns bottom of the barrel and is blaming an entire company for it not being as good as the top tier. There is a term for what he wants I believe its unreal expectations.

probably the OEM replacement ones that people seem to think are high performance off road racing shocks.

lol at this thread. I really don't think I've come across any bad reviews on Bilsteins until this thread.

Re: Bilsteins NO GOOD
I think its so funny how rough this road is that he talks about. Maybe hes prerunning it the whole way at 80 mph lol seriously if its that rough slow down. Stock replacement shocks cant take that kind of abuse. Blisten is not a bad shock, but if you abuse anything it will break.

Re: Bilsteins NO GOOD
Just homers defending their yellow death shocks. No doubt the 7100s are better - but you need to make major modifications to your truck to make them fit. Point is I shouldn't have to spend $XXXX on shocks every year.
Gas station half way, roughest highway on the continent, has nothing to do with trailer, 40 and 50 below windchills for 6 months a year. I don't think 'south' dakota can match us lol. Hilarious.

That's because nobody on this forum actually rides their trucks to the edge. Something on my ranger gives out every time I drive that highway. These trucks are not 'tough'. I love my ranger, but I don't want to spend half it's purchase price in aftermarket parts to make it as capable as a chevy or a tacoma.
That said, nothing that's broken down on it has been major besides the transfer case, but that's the price of living up north.

Aren't the yellow ones the OEM replacements? Mine are silver 5100 series and no modification to the truck needed.
