Its consistently been 40-50 below with windchill here since october. Not that it matters windchill has ZERO effect on motor vehicles. Oddly enough the coldest a piece of metal can get when its -10 ambient out is -10 wind blowing or not.

For the 7100 series of shocks...how can you say bilstein sucks if those don't? You purchased a base model oem replacement shock. It is designed to withstand base model oem things. It was never designed to run down washboard roads at 80+ mph, thats why they sell better shocks. I imagine you overheated and blew the shocks playing Mario Andretti.

Oh and comparing the massive dirt road in Canada to everywhere as being the worst road on earth is just plain stupid. You aren't special there are millions of miles of gravel road in the us. Canada isn't fucking special.

Go buy some better shocks. Bilstein, fox, it really doesn't matter just stop trying to make a base yellow tube o shit into something its not.

That's because nobody on this forum actually rides their trucks to the edge. Something on my ranger gives out every time I drive that highway. These trucks are not 'tough'. I love my ranger, but I don't want to spend half it's purchase price in aftermarket parts to make it as capable as a chevy or a tacoma.

That said, nothing that's broken down on it has been major besides the transfer case, but that's the price of living up north.
Well you're stupid as f*** if you think I get all my information from one place. I'm talking all reviews I've ever read from all websites/stores/referrals from parts people/ etc. I just trust the people on this site especially the ones that have been around a long time and have tried every possible combo of parts. Idk how they do shit up there where they have the "roughest highway on the continent" but around here, you get what you pay for, as multiple people on this thread said already. In order to have long lasting/high quality parts, especially if you are putting the truck through any type rough terrain, you have to spend big bucks to get the quality you are looking for. And thinking that a stock chevy or tacoma or anything with stock parts MADE FOR ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS would be any better on your "tough" highway is a joke as well. And Idk what temp has to do with how rough your road is... stop complaining and buy higher quality, stop buying entry level OEM replacement parts and spend the extra $$$. Or better yet, stay in Canada eh and freeze to death. your choice. I don't run Bilsteins, nor run on rough terrain often, so I'm not defending them, I'm just talking about how dumb you are because you're paying for a Yugo and expecting the performance of a Ferrari...

Prompt reply "send them to us and we will test them" 2 weeks later I was sent 6 new shock absorbers. I was also told that the replacement shocks had been tested and were in mid range of specs. The fronts are still bouncy. Went to a reputable brake/suspension specialist who verified the front shocks are no good. Bilstein by the way are their top of the line shock. He was somewhat perplexed. I've contacted Bilstein with the details and am getting the run around. I'm driving my Ranger with substandard handling and braking. Is anyone else out there having problems with Bilsteins for their stock 2wd?
Here's a novel idea, go to your local offroad/4wd shop and ask them what they are selling for replacement shocks for your road conditions in your area.
A lot of people on here are busting your balls and don't live in the state...use your head...just sayin:

I just replaced my stock bilsteins recently (they were 11 years old) and they still had life left in them when I replaced them. I put new bilsteins on. Never have they failed me, the old or new ones. I drive down washed out dirt road every single day, the road is so bad that it will shake a car apart if it's rusty enough, which it did to my friends Subaru, and they still ride like a dream. ---------- I also plow gravel driveways and roads with my truck. If having a plow and driving on awful dirt roads isn't a rest of shock absorber quality, I don't know what is.

I bought the base model bilstein hds last year to replace my kyb monomax. Id have to say the kybs handled alot better, and they both ride stiff, but i prefer the kybs a bit more. My bilsteins havent exploded yet lol...but i dont drive in the freakin artic tundra or anything. OP, have you found a shock that you find perform better than bilsteins? Maybe you could stick a white hydro twin tube in your toolbox in case one of shocks fails and u need to make a quick repair.

I agree, Bilstein sux. People that spend tons of cash for inferior products hate to admit it. Where im from the girls and doctors call it "little dick syndrome" Most guys that beef up and raise their street legal trucks have it. Another example is people that buy sport bikes and extend the swingarm. Why would you NOT want the front wheel to come off the ground? Why would you stretch the wheel base and RUIN the bikes ability to corner? Thats what it was designed and built to do! If you dont want to corner fast and ride long wheelies...... Get a Harley! ....or a Honda Rebel. Put on your big girl panties and keep on truckin, remember kids..... To each his/her own! You dont HAVE to approve of their behavier, but yo DO have to accept it and move on like a champ....At least thats what my parole officer tells me.....

Feel better?

I feel like you've been holding that rant in and finally just let it out to get it off your chest.

Ah, the "they must have a little dick" excuse. The famous words of jealousy. I love it when people say that because someone has nicer things than them. It's like the last card in their hand. I can't bash on them for working hard and having nice things, so instead I'm just going to make myself feel better by saying they have a small dick.

Noone makes a 'real' off road shocks that is a direct bolt on to a ranger, at least that I can find. For a truck with an 'off road' reputation, that's some weak shit. Shouldn't have to spend four digit money on shocks and custom mounts to have real-world performance. I'm going back to a silverado next year.
Even if you ride rough. Least you get where you're going in the Ford. Have fun with that Chevy. Guy I know had a brand spanking new Chevy. Cranked it. Realized he forgot something. Turned it back off, came back and it wouldn't crank. Computer was bad because he didn't let it go through it's start up cycle.

LOL i didnt buy bilsteins because of tiny weiner syndrome haha. I bought them because ive read on this forum and on others that bilsteins, even the hd model, were the best. Now, i wouldnt say they are the best, but they certainly dont suck like some of yall are saying.

unfortunately though, i havent been impressed by them at all. i have a freaking warehouse full of shocks for my ranger, so i have first hand knowledge of basically every model for a 4x4 ranger that they make. So far i have tried kyb gasajust, kyb monomax, rancho 5000 standard and extended travel, monroe sensatrac, monroe reflex, procomp 1000 and 9000.... theres a few more in there that i have forgotten but you all get the picture.

I get these shocks for $10- $20 a piece at scratch and dent sales...so its not hard on the wallet and fun to switch different combos around. Right now im running bilsteins on the front and Reflex on the rear.

But going from 3 month old monomax to bilsteins i was not impressed at all. The bilsteins were just as stiff on bumps and pothole as my monomax, but it had less handling and control around corners.

I can see if someone had oem shocks with 100k on them and switched to bilstein there would be a big difference....

You clearly have no place on this forum. You don't like your truck, have no interest in your truck, and think very lowly of all of the members. There's only 2 reasons why you would be here bitching:
1. You hate your truck (and Bilstein, apparently) with that much passion, or,

2. You're to stupid to understand the point in a forum, because trust me, you're missing it here.

I'm going with number 2.

I'm impressed with you. I couldn't type that well with that big old helmet on my head. Maybe if you behave super well they'll let you take it off and lick the monitor.

Cheap shocks suck buy a rebuilable 2.5" any brand and tell me whose sucks. Bilstein makes a quality product recommended by tons of people, companies etc. Your bad experience or misuse isn't a faulty product.

Oh and if your under $150 a shock its a cheap shock so we are clear on that.

As for "little dick syndrome" its probably the most annoying bullshit I have heard. Right next to why would you build a ranger. Honestly just fuck off with that nonsense its just stupid. If you dont like lifted trucks good for you. I like mine and offroading is an enjoyable hole family outing wife and kiddo both love it so...yea if that means a stranger who knows nothing about me thinks I am compensating maybe just maybe his head needs to get forcibly removed from his ass.
