im gonna be gettin a new gun for graduation im thinkin the stoeger 2000 12ga if i get a shotgun but if i get a rifle i want a 30-30 lever action but i dont know any good models (i have around 500 to spend on this). what are some good lever action 30-30's and would you go with the shotgun or rifle...i will mostly be using it for deer and i may try at some hogs if i can find somewhere to go closeby

well if your deer hunting a shotgun is gonna do you much good lol. not unless you can sneak up on bambi and enjoy pulling buckshot out of it. a rifle would be a much better choice

i like weapons that go bang...the only place that i know of where i could get close enough to kill a deer with a spear is cades cove in tennessee and its illegal to hunt there

thats not true, i deer hunt with a 12 gauge but i shoot slugs. where i hunt, 80 yards is the longest shot i have so i prefer my 12 gauge over a rifle, plus 550 grains goes through the brush better. also, there are zones in my state that allow ONLY shotgun hunting. as far as a 30-30, look into a marlin, those are the nicest lever action 30-30's ive ever seen. i love the lever action rifles, make me feel like a cowboy! lol

my moms 2nd husband had a 30 30 that he let me use when i would go deer hunting before i got my 20ga...i loved that gun but i love shotguns too and want one a bit more powerful...what kinda damage would a 12ga slug do to a wild hog?

well, look up what a 12g slug will do to a human, and youll have your answer. it wont be pretty i assure you lol

Ive never hunted with a rifle, just became legal in parts of NY. 12 gauge does just fine though. If you get a 12 gauge go with the remington 870 or mossberg 500and get a rifled barrel! On the gun note, here is the spread back when we had our pig roast in August.

im kinda wanting a semi auto i currently have a mossberg 500 20ga that i will be keeping for smaller game (squirel, coon, etc.)
