Ruger P95 and P345 are some nice ones. The best feeling gun I have is a Walther PK380 but that's just a small one for the truck.

I really like the ruger that you guys are talking about. It looks nice and seems to be really affordable so that might be the gun I get for my "girlfriend's birthday"(self) next.

I like the Ruger SR40. I've got fairly large hands, this fits like a glove.
Aside from that, I'm goin' old school with my Ruger Blackhawk (single action revolver, .357 magnum). Guaranteed, if this is drawn, whatever is aimed at is as good as gone.

I have owned several Glocks, and have loved everyone of them. I've also done some stupid things with them too while testing them. I've thrown mud, dirt, sand, dust, snow at them and even fired it several times under water. They go bang every time, and accurately. My Glocks came with 3 mags, and with most police agencies issuing Glocks, there isn't an issue about finding surplus factory magazines for a reduced price ($10-$15). And of course, they work very well. You cannot go wrong with a glock.

My old man was one of the first cops in NYC to test glocks back in the 80's. he carried his till he retired with no issues. When I became of age my first carry was a glock 26. Mean little bugger. Eats everything u put in the pipe!!! Like others said u can't go wrong with a glock.

I love my Springfield XD9 Service model. I shoot it in an action pistol match every match and wouldn't change a thing except maybe go up to the 45. Highly recommend this, unless you have a couple extra hundred dollars left in your budget, then I'd say go up to the XDm. I shot my friend's and almost went back and traded mine.

Ruger SR-22 for carry and in the vehicles......1500 rounds and not one FTF or FTE. Ruger Mark III Target Competition for the range and plinking on my property. A large caliber pistol that you can't shoot accurately is far less useful than a .22 caliber which can bang out 5 quick shots on target.
My wife has a Sig P232.

Another vote for the Ruger. The LC9 has become my preferred carry weapon.

My short list for choosing a pistol is -

Reliability
Fit
Ease of operation (including cleaning)

My LC9 has never jammed, fits my hand perfectly, and is simple as a rock to use and maintain.

Next, I have long thought that shot placement is far more important than caliber. Let's face it, it doesn't matter how "awesome" the potential hole in the perp is if the round misses. Then earlier this year I ran up on a politically incorrect video about personal defense and the very topic.

http://www.wnd.com/wnd_video/for-sel...dibttWn2uk21w4

Finally, save up and get what you want. Then be sure and practice.

I've got a G21 and love it. I don't typically carry it that much, because it's so freakin huge. I did carry it regularly for about 6 months, but I found that my 1911 was MUCH easier to carry, since it was so much thinner. I know the capacity of double stacks is tempting, but don't discount single stack guns either. Kahr makes a sweet single stack, polymer, pistol.

My advice, go to a gun store and ask to strap on a couple different guns to see what's most comfortable. Any decent shop will let you try on a few of them if you're serious about buying something.
