Default ? for turkey hunters!

okay so this year i have decided that i am going to try to hunt the turkey that are coming down to my hometown, apparently there is quite a few in the field where i hunt. i dont know much about turkey hunting, i plan to camo down, and shoot one as i see one (no calls no decoys etc) always seems easy to get close to turkeys lol

now in the same area i am frequently hunting doves (it is my main hunt) with usually 8 shot or occasionally 7 1/2 shot. i have 8,7.5,6,4,2 shots in my ammo box right now. now since i hunt a variety of things with the 8 shot, can i use the 8 shot to shoot a turkey right in the head? as i said earlier, i hunt doves so shooting a small moving object is not that hard ( however i realize there is a difference between vertical(head bobbing) and horizontal movement (dove flying)

i use a 20 gauge, its just what i have always used since i was a kid, so getting a 12 gauge is not what i want to do (but i do have access i think)

let me know what you guys think! i did research and they were all about using 6-4 shots for shooting the neck/breast region which i can do but i think a head shot would be better for the meat?

I also do not know much about turkey hunting but I do know that you do not want to stalk them. Just hunter down and wait. If you can pull off a head shot that is great just remember that is a small damn target. I will be watching this as well seeing as I am thinking of getting into turkey hunting next year.

The biggest reason is because. If there are other hunters out there they can get an itchy trigger and since they are wait for turkey's to come to them people have a tendency to shoot at whatever moves. That is one of the more serious hazard with turkey hunting that exists.

No stalking, sit and call. a 20 gauge will work with the right load. and shot placement.

Buy one they are like 10 bucks. A turkey in the right time will go to a call. A big empty field is prime for turkey. They love that shit.

If your not going to use a call hope that no one within 3/4 mile is they have exceptional hearing and their sight is even better,I suggest a glass or slate call all you need in the fall is to purr and cluck which is easy to do by sliding the striker along the surface and to cluck strike it like a match, easy does it not too hard.remember no sudden movements they will see you ! Good luck,If you get one post a picture.
