I use Hevi-13's. I shoot them in 12 Ga. Size 7.
I just checked, you can get them in 20 ga too.

get some turkey loads and a turkey choke.
these are the loads i use: shells
the primos jelly head is a good turkey choke for a reasonable price. i have one for my 870 Jelly Head
and you always want to shoot a turkey in the head. it saves the meat

Are you planning on hunting them in the spring or in the fall or both?

am i really unlikely to kill a turkey without a choke? i mean a 7 shot should be way tight enough...5 ehhh idk ive killed a few doves on 6 shots when i ran out lol

In some states. Like Mine, Its illegal to hunt Turkey, Goose or Duck without proper choke and number of shells in the gun. And if its Goose or Duck, you better hope when the DNR officer comes by with his magnet to check your shells that they stick to. Otherwise thats a HUGE fine.

you can do it. you will just end up with a bunch of shot in the meat. and it may take more than one shot. if you do just use what youve got for shells, put the tightest choke in that youve got. with only a full choke i wouldnt take a shot more than 20-25 feet

Go with 4 or 5 shot 3" turkey loads and the biggest choke you got full or extra full and you should be able to kill up to 40-45 yards no problem, just try different brands of ammo until you find the ones that pattern the best. Turkeys and dove hunting are really not comparable, turkeys are pretty tuff and if you don't hit them just right they'll take off like a s.o.b. I have learned this from experience.

Turkeys are about the smartest animal you can hunt. They see in color with good eye sight, good hearing, and incredibly alert. We usually hunt them by busting up the flock and hunting them separately. They have strength in numbers.... 30 eyes are better than 2 obviously. If you bust up a flock, thats when you sit and call them in. I think slate calls work the best, but you have to use both hands, where as a mouth call lets you hold your gun and call at the same time.

Anyways, here's my turkey gun:
