Default Daytona

Under the lights on Saturday night for the Sprint Cup Series! Love Daytona, hate the two car tandems. I mean, you know its not that great when Dale Earnhardt Jr. himself said he's not looking forward to going to Daytona. Who is your pick for this weekend? I'm hoping Junior finally gets this monkey off his back and shuts all the haters up.

Also, for you NASCAR fans. I wanna know what you thought of the whole Juan Pablo Montoya vs. Kasey Kahne feud at Sonoma. Personally, I love it. I felt Montoya was racing dirty all day long. He ran Kyle Busch off the track which caused Vickers to move down in front of Stewart and Stewart thought he was blocking so he wrecked him. Montoya took out Kahne for no reason and I thought Montoya got what he deserved when Brad Keselowski spun him. Gotta love Kasey's interview "He's just mad at himself because he can't win in NASCAR" Hahaha nothing like a little heated on and off track incidents to get tempers flared going into Daytona

I heart back to the 1979 daytona 500 when Bobby Allison and Cale Yarboro came to blows after the last lap ended. I was 4 when that happened.

I don't think anything will happen between Stewart and Brian. I think it was just tempers at a track that everyone was beating and banging. Juan Pablo just took that "beating and banging" definition to a whole new level. He's such an idiot.

I've lost interest in Nascar to be honest. Especially if JJ #48 wins championship number 6. I feel like they've been handing him the title for the last 2 seasons to be honest about it. Denny Hamlin should've won it last year, and Carl Edwards should've won it the year before that. Nascar I think chooses who they want to be their champion. It's like it's rigged or something to me.

I just don't understand that. You can't rig Nascar. I don't even like Jimmie Johnson but you can't rig it. How do you think they are rigging it? Its making them lose fans when the same guys wins over and over again so I don't think they want him to keep winning. Hamlin SHOULD have won it but he choked in Homestead. Look at today...people thought they were going to rig it for Jr but you can't rig a Nascar race. Anything can happen from blowing an engine, to losing a tire. People also say they rig races for Jr...if they did he wouldn't be having such a bad streak right now.

NASCAR sucks even more now. What a joke of a race. Nothing like seeing a bunch of two car packs. BORING...

I was talking about the points system not the actual race. Yes you can rig it by having a couple of drivers have more power than the others, but I doubt they rig the actual race. It just seems like it is when it comes to the points system that they have including the latest one that they have now. For example, if a driver wins 2 races they're automatically in the chase for the title which is crap in my book. And how can a driver win the championship with no where near the wins that other drivers get? Carl Edwards in the season before last out drove and won more races than JJ did, and yet JJ still won his 4th strait championship which is bull. Carl Edwards even won the last race of that season and yet JJ still got more points for the race than he did. That's why I am not a fan of Nascar anymore. They're losing more and more fans everyday beause of the way it's set up, and the driver's arrogance towards the fans. Tony Stewart is indeed a real prick and if he doesn't get his way, he takes his racing suit and goes home. I've seen him do it at my home track twice (Bristol, TN) during autograph sessions.

I've said before and I'll say it again, wins does not determine who wins the championship. The key is CONSISTENCY. JJ has had it over the last five years. Carl might have had more wins but when it gets down the chase the 48 team ALWAYS is the best. I HIGHLY doubt Edwards had less points in a race he won. That race Edwards won he had 195 points and Jimmie Johnson had 175. Johnson just had a big enough point lead that Edwards couldn't get him if JJ finished 2nd. And no, Nascar doesn't favor one single team and allow them more power. They tech every single car and Nascar is very open with the teching situation and they always tech each and every car the same. And Nascar drivers are actually some of the coolest athletes. Its one of the few sports in the world that you can actually meet your favorite athlete. Just buy a garage pass and you'll most likely meet them. Yes, Tony Stewart is a prick but he is hilarious in some of his interviews. I'm not trying to argue I'm just giving you my point of view.

That's if they wanted to rig it dude in which they don't. Carl Edwards that year was alot more consistant than JJ was imo. Denny Hamlin was too for that matter. I'm not arguing with you either dude. I have worked a little bit for some people in nascar and it just seems like the chase for the title is rigged. Is JJ pretty good behind the wheel, yes. He's a pretty nice guy and so is Chad his crew chief. What I'm saying is that they change the points system every year for some reason. This year's point system is based apon wins and the most points you can get in a race this season is 48 points (that aint no joke either look it up if you don't believe me). I just can't see how someone can finish 15th or better and still win the title within 4 races. And JJ didn't have that big of a lead over Carl Edwards either. It finished up that way. That's how close it was. Denny Hamlin basicly was in the same boat as well but his team had too many DNF's due to blown engines.

I'm pretty sure the max is 47 but thats besides the point. And no, this year isn't based on wins. It HELPS to have wins to get in with those final 2 wild card spots. Two wins doesn't necessarily guarantee you a spot in the chase. This is how it works.
Spots 1-10 are locked in.
Now you take the 2 drivers with the most wins(whether it be 5 or 1) from positions 11-20 and those 2 drivers get positions 11 and 12 in the chase. Brad Keselowski and Regan Smith both have wins so far this season but are outside the top 20 in points so they are ineligible for the 2 wild card positions.
Okay, back to JJ. Going into that race JJ had a big enough lead that if he finished 2nd NO MATTER WHAT he would win the championship. JJ has always been the best when it gets into the final 10 races and no one can deny that.

Actually multiple statements through out the season from nascar have stated that this year's title is based apon wins but not entirely though. JJ's team seems to have it down pat basicly. They don't concern themselves like the others do with the title right away. They focus on GETTING IN THE CHASE FIRST. Then they go from there. Another thing is they also talk to other teams within Hendrick Motorsports for additional info. concerning setups and alot of other things. Nascar did say 48 points was the most you can get during a race though at the begining of the season. I know the top 10 are locked in and number 11 and 12 in the points are wildcard spots. Kyle Bush found out how much being consistant can determine who wins the title in 2007. He domianted through out the entire season until he got in the chase. That's when his team screwed the pooch royally. I will say that Dale Jr is looking alot better this season than he did last season and he is being more consistant than most are right now. A brilliant move for Rick Hendrick to switch crewchiefs with Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr.

Yeah, that move was great. Jr is finally running well and I'm loving it, as is all of Jr Nation! Just curious, if you do have one, who is your favorite driver?

I kindly like Carl Edwards. He seems a little different than most of your typical drivers.

Thats my sisters driver. Kind of a little family rivalry even though she only likes him because he's "hott" and she knows nothing about Nascar. haha But for some reason I'm starting to like Harvick. He's hilarious. He speaks his mind and doesn't care what anyone thinks.
