Default My 5k race went good...

Well ive been training and running all summer for 5k racing (running). I cross county in high school and miss it dearly! I hate to always be saying "i used to" but here goes:

In high school I started running Cross County after my baseball coach recommended to me to stay fit in the off season. So my sophmore year i took his advice. I weighed like 135-140 then. so i started off with my first race running the 5k (3.1 miles) in 23 mins some odd seconds. finished 10th. the next race, 22 mins some odd seconds. and from thereafter i took off one minute every race until i broke 20 mins and was running 3.1 miles in an average time of 19:20 for the rest of the season (like 15 more races) The last race of the season at State Regionals, i ran the 5k in 18:10!!! man was i happy. i missed going to States by 1 place.

Fast forward 6 years of not running and 50 more lbs..

Ive been working in retail from the age of 16 until last year (21 yrs old) then i graduated college and got a desk job gained 15 lbs for a grand total of 185 lbs in December 2008. Took up the gym and converted it all over to muscle and lost my wasitline. However i still weigh the same bc of the muscle i gained going to the gym.

i recently took up running again and to my dissappointment, i am not 16 years old again! i was averaging the same race i used to run in 19:20 in about 28-30 mins!!! man was i mad. So ive been training for our local annual race for the last few montsh and shave off about mins!! i just ran the 5k on saturday in 25:21...man was i happy. i think i can get down to my old times with about another 6 months of running. just thought i'd share my accomplishments!

i finished 63rd, my fiance finished 100th. pretty food out of 249 runners!!!

no problem.

trust me, I understand -- I, too, ran cross-country in high school. Unlike you, I never liked it, and can understand why it would feel like you're 150 years from the finish line!

then, I found road cycling -- now that, I really enjoyed!

I just started training for my first 5k ever. I know I only have 2 more week for a Turkey Trot, but I know I'll be ready. I've been disciplining myself on my eating and getting out and hitting the pavement. I"m pumped, even though I'm not expecting great things, I'm doing it b/c I'm 30lbs overweight if you can tell my my photos I just posted on on the Pictures of me thread. So keep up the good work.

Nice man, I've thought about doing something like that, would need to follow your footsteps and hit the gym long in advance though lol

I doesn't help when you live a fast paced life, kid's eating chicken nuggets, and other stuff good for you. And my neighbor works for Frito lay so we get snack bags all the time, and my one downfall is hot dogs! I love a good hot dog with the works. I'm a picky eater too, but I would eat salad every day if I could, but it gets expensive. WHen I was young I ran with my dad in the early mornings before school and would basically outrun him. I want the bounce in my step back to keep up with my girls. They bounce off the walls, and it drives me nuts. So this is my way of trying to keep up with them. That an seeing my granddad's health for 88 or so plus years, I want to be like him. Apart from his prostate cancer he's still going strong relatively.
