Default The new Nascar points system...

Well, I finally got the break down of the points system for this season. The most points you can get for a race is 48. You get 43 for winning, 2 for leading the most laps, and 3 for the most laps lead. There is a small catch though. If a driver wins 2 or more races, they're already locked into the chase. So far Kevin Harvick #29, is locked in the chase and if Jeff Gordon #24 and Carl Edwards #99 win one more race each they're locked into the chase. We can add Matt Kennseth #17 to that list after Ford domianted Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend.

i kinda like the new points system but i don't. i know they need to put more emphasis on winning but bumping 2 drivers that have worked their asses off to put someone with 2 or more wins in their spot is stupid.... they need to take the best of both worlds.

i love the new points system...easier to figure out how many points a driver got and it made the racing a lot better

Well yes and no. Yes it's good to see them focus on winning and encourages teams to win, because last season Jimmie Johnson didn't even place in the top 15 in the last 3 races and still won his 5th championship in a row. Carl Edwards won the most races last season, and he finished 3rd in the chase. That's stupid IMO. But I can also see your point too. A crew whom has overcome so many obsticals and work as hard as they could to not get in the chase, and not be able to get in because someone else won 2 races is extremely selfish IMO.

True it is easier to figure out who where and why. The points system has been really screwed up since they started the chase for the championship. IMO, they should've kept the way it was before the chase, because they virtually handed Jimmie Johnson his 5th strait championship on a silver platter.

----------

How does a driver like Jimmie Johnson keep winning championships we'll never truly know. He was handed his 5th title on a silver platter IMO.

Yeah I know. I didn't get to go see it this year. BMS is less than an hour away from me. That's my home track. My area becomes a nut house when there's a race at Bristol. Yeah I like it better this year than last years system.

Johnson would have won the championship last year under the new points system as well. If they used the pre-chase point system, Harvick would have been the winner.

Yeah I know. Harvick, Carl Edwards, and Kyle Busch seem to be the strongest this year. Dale Jr. is doing 10 times better this year after Rick Hendrix switched crew chiefs around a bit. Jimmie Johnson aint doing to good this year. Yeah he won the championship by winning a couple of races during the chase and being consistant. I don't like him, but I have to say he is the best. 10 more championships and he's tied John Force. That's the only driver I know that won 10 strait championships and has won a total of 15 in all and he did it with a Ford too.

Nascar should do away with the all the provisionals. The top 35 locked in is total crap and the lucky dog is just wrong.
Nascar has always been slanted toward GM since 1980 and now the 48 team has been getting away with something and it is obvious.

I know this is late... but you do NOT get locked in to the chase if you win 2 races. Atleast thats what I got. This is how it works...... 1-10 in points after race 26 are locked in to the chase. So there are two more spots left.... Now, what ever two drivers have the most wins from positions 11-20 get in the chase. That leaves 12 drivers in the chase. Thats how it works if I understood it correctly. I think you misunderstood them talking about Kevin Harvick. They were saying since he already won two races he was pretty much guaranteed a spot because most drivers in positions 11-20 barely have one win and most don't have two...

I think the whole chase has blown chunks since it started.

With that said, I think that in order for a driver to be eligible for the championship they HAVE to win at least two races no matter how many points they get during the season. Cut out all the points-racers and make the champion a true champion.

i agree, the new system sucks, if it wasn't in effect, JJ would NOT have his 5 championships unless he raced his ass off like earnhardt used to do way back when... i think its funny, JJ seems like he keeps sneaking his way back to the top. i know harvick is hell bent on un-throwning JJ, but if he doesn't get his head out of his ass,a nd stop playing about with kyle, hes gonna F up, and miss his chance to be a champion

Wins don't define a true champion in NASCAR. Look at Matt Kenseth when he won his championship. Won one race all year but he deserved it because he was the most consistent driver on the circuit. I think that would be stupid for you to HAVE to win two races a year. The championship would be won by Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, and Carl Edwards EVERY SINGLE year. Look at Dale Earnhardt Jr., currently sitting 4th in the standings and has been one of the most consistent drivers so far with just a little bad luck... He might not win a race but he's looking to be a contender so far. All his statistics prove it. He's ran the most laps on the lead lap, he has 4th most quality passes, and has the 7th best running position on the track. Those are the real statistics that define a champion...not wins.

agreed wins should not define a champion.... a champion should have to over come a little adversity in a few races and still come out in top... now that being said they stated when daytona was being run that to be in the 11-12 spot in the chase you would most likely need to win 2 or more races in order to be locked in .... i think it's a crock that they are gonna take someone out that busted their ass' off to be in that spot and give it to someone who has gotten lucky/or has been good enought to win a couple of races throught the year.... but that's just my opinion....

EXACTLY!! Now, even though I don't even like this guy I'm gonna use him as an example. If Kurt Busch finishes the first 26 races of the season with 0 wins and is 11th in points can have his spot taken by Regan Smith who got lucky at Darlington!!!!! The worst part about it is that Regan Smith is a 25th place driver in all reality...
