Not all the time. I have a kahlees 3x9x50 scope and I can count the points on a deer if it's on the moon. Hitting it is another story. I saw a 6 point with about a 20 in. spread last year, so it was a mature old deer. It was at 200 yards and I couldn't get it any closer. I eventually took the shot and just did missed. The moral is I could count the points, but couldn't hit the damn thing.

Not if you drive dogs. Sometimes it takes all 5 shots, because that deer is running 40+.

IMO thats lame. at least have enough respect for the animal you are hunting to at least take a clean ethical shot. taking running shots at deer is a good way to wound a deer and not recover it. thats probably the exact thing that happened to the yearling i mentioned earlier. if you know you cant kill it with one shot, dont take the shot. its our responsibly as hunters to do the right thing and not wound deer. thats probably the exact reason hunting with dogs is illegal here and its a damn good reason if you ask me.

Thats the only way to hit them. Believe me they don't stop. Then about the dog, if you get short legged beagles they are WAY behind the deer. So, you won't shoot them. Shooting someone else will not happen, because everyone is spread way out. It is a safe sport. You really need to try it. I promise whatever opinion you have of it will change. The first time I went it changed my whole perception of it. I love it now and go atleast 2 times a year.

Ok, I had the same opinion you had before I did. It is a very pure way of hunting. It is just as ethical as hunting from a stand. Our ancestors did it and survied on doing it. When I went the first time and the deer started running it was a whole new experience. You adrinaline gets going when you hear the dogs find a deer or run one. It really is something you should try once. I promise you will change your mind about it. I did the minute I tried it.

for one, its illegal here, for two i have no want or need to try it. our ancestors also poached heavily, shot anything that moved and also are responsible for so many free range large game animals that are near extinction now. i prefer to learn from the mistakes that our forefathers, ancestors, grandparents, dads ect. made and not repeat them. its not an ethical way to hunt period. just because people did it in the past doesnt mean its the right thing to do.

Dude! WHOA! I hunt from a tree stand from NOVEMBER 20-JANUARY 31! I LOVE THE SPORT EVEN THOUGH I DO IT 2 TIMES A YEAR! I tried to get you to understand it is not some idiotic way of hunting! I never made a comment at how you hunt! I simply suggested you to try it. Maybe you don't like it, but thats all you have to say. You didn't have to make any of those remarks.

Ok, but understand this. I am an ethical hunter. I don't shoot unless it is a mature deer and I'm willing to mount. I don't break the law! I am not some one who grabs a gun goes in the woods and unloads on whatever. I sometimes never pull the trigger in a season. Now, think about this. Can you shoot a deer and be 100% sure it dies on impact? The answer is no. A deer will run and suffer for a minute or an hour or sometimes more, 90% of the time. So, shooting them on a dog drive is no different. I have shot some on dog drives before that hit the ground on impact. A lot of how we hunt isn't fair. Is sitting out of eye level fair to the deer? Is wearing camo fair? Is getting a scope fair? Is using cover scents fair? Are calls or decoys fair? Is using corn or food plots fair? None of that is technically fair or ethical. The deer has a 0% chance. On a dog drive it has a really good chance to live.
