Ok, the most obvious part of finding a "decent" mechanic( and not one of these over-rated/over paid parts changers) is checking with the usual suspects. A lot of the laymen wanna think that a greasy n grimy looking guy standing in a "shop" makes for quality repairs. I used to manage a dealership repair department. Just owning tools doesn't start to make a mechanic. Experience dealing with mechanical issues in a modern vehicle isnt something that a shade tree jerk needs to be standing over, much less trying to diagnose or repair. The newest stuff is really technical and sensitive. There isn't a single system in a new vehicle that doesn't rely on every other subsection. Bypassing anything often has some really adverse effects
