hey guys, like i have stated in my welcoming post, i have the chance to pick up a 1987 ranger for really cheap, but needing work. the truck is one of my favourite body styles and is cheap enough for a first truck. the only problem is, is that it needs axles / or axles fixed. what i am getting at, is my dad has a 1991 f-150 4x4 in the driveway that is sitting there after he had just bought his new truck. my question is, will the f-150 axles work under the ranger ? both trucks are 4x4 and have 31's.

any help on how to or if it is even possible would be awesome! thanks guys.

anything can work with enough modification, butttttttttt your best bet is to pull some axles out of one at a junkyard or something. does it need front or rear axles? or botH?

ok. do you know what it would take to do the f-150 axle swap?
they are both solid axles.
and it is only the front that needs replaced.

dont know much about the f-150, but i could assume the gearing would be different, its probably a longer axle, and that the u-joint for the f150 pinion gear could possibly be different than the one on the ranger (aka might not match up) and the lug pattern could be different. again, i really know nothing about f150s, but these are something to keep in mind.

lug pattern is 5 x 5.5 rangers is 5x 4.5 and the f-150 is wider

ok thanks a lot, i might as well go look for a used axle in a scrap yard. but you never know!

how much do you think used axles would run me? and what years would all work in an 97 ranger?

as far as i know any ranger axle should work and any pre 01 explorer axle i would look for an 8.8in 4:10 explorer axle since its a disc brake rear end if your going to go through all that trouble of switching out the thing and i think its 130 bucks at pick n pull for a whole rear end

Your best bet I would say is try to find a '91-'97 Ranger with a 4.0, they had 8.8 rears with a dana 35 front axle, stronger than your front dana 28. and you may even luck out and find a 8.8 with a trac-lock rear lol. my '94 has a trac-lock rear and its posi more times than my '03 with the torsen rear diff is!

what are my chances of fiinding a trac-lock rear :P with my luck, not lkely but you never know.

well all i can seem to find are one wheeler squealer rear ends haha and i already have one of those
