If you get the older odd model d30 off the cherokee with the vacuum lock, take it off and install newer shafts. Because the vacuum sucks. Or get the kit to electrically engage it.

I read somewhere to get the newer ones, and even if you get the newer axle I think it was Reid racing, makes stronger shafts and electric hubs? But either way I'm glad for the advice

Even the older axle you can swap in the new shafts. Mine has the older axle and I left it. I am using stock shafts in mine. My motors bored .60 over but that's all. The vacuum stuff is garbage.

So back to the original question...37s??? Possible on a built Dana 30? I mean if an IFS Dana 35 can handle 37s shouldn't a solid axle Dana 30 be able to support them?

He might have 37's - but that's pushing it like crazy. If you don't mind replacing parts & running on borrowed time - then sure it would "work'.
Just because you can - doesn't mean you should.

If you want 37's and are going to go through all the work to put in a solid axle you might as well put an axle in that can handle it without as many issues. If you want a 30 then stick with 35's and don't be an idiot with a lead foot and you will be fine.
And not all d44's are full width. 80-91 wagoneers have a 44 that is almost the same length.

Thanks for the info, I didn't think there were any Dana 44s that were shorter...what bolt pattern did they have tho? Because that could also be a problem

There is two different lengths thru those years. One around 59-60" and one 65" which is basically full width. Had something to do if it had flares or not. A ranger axle is 58" I believe.
I think there was some six lug but there is also some 5 x 5.5. Easy fix it to get adapters for your stock rear or get them redrilled.
Downfall is that they are all low pinion

Yeah low pinion would kinda blow...my whole goal overall is around 8inch leaf spring lift, 37s, and a 4bt cummins...so I think I'm just gonna have to either suck it up and go one tons or have them shortened a little
