Dana 35 sas / need full explanation
I'm wanting to do a dana 35 front in my 04 xlt 4x4. I want to know what all I need. It's an everyday driver and I want coils and will I need a back d35 too?

Re: Dana 35 sas
A back dana 35? What? If your referring to a rear axle no your 8.8 is fine they don't make a Dana 35 rear axle.
Start researching threads on here about sas. Also on pirate 4x4 has good articles. This isn't something to dive into lightly and judging by your post you have have the expertise in suspension geometry to do it. Learn learn. Then find something who knows to also help guide you.

Re: Dana 35 sas
I've searched threads on here and I've only seen dana 30s and 44s. And they're usually a play toy. I'm wanting a daily driver

some reading and you could've answered these yourself..
you have a dana 35 ifs diff in your truck stock up front, the dana 35 rear is a piece of shit jeep axle. your factory 8.8 is stronger already.
to put a dana 30 or 44 under your truck... go read SAS build threads. nobody is going to write up a how to for you. do research, some more research, and when you're done, go read some more! then you will have very few specific questions instead of a general bs ones. youll sound smarter asking the right questions, and with the right questions, people know how to respond and get you the best answer... after some reading you'll have a feel for the parts you'll need, techniques for setting up the SFA, and also learn what needs to be cut off and how much work it can be.
but what would i know..

No need to be a dick. I've read threads on here and it didn't answer my question. That's why I'm asking such broad questions

this question is why this thread is going sideways.... you supposedly read every sas thread but have no idea where you wanna start...
ok lets see you wanna daily drive an sas truck... first question how tall..? you need to run atleast 35's to make it even worth it. ranger frames dont have a step up in it and the frame will limit your up travel.
you wanna daily drive a 35"+ truck hope you make good cash your mpg is gonna blow hard.. you will need 4.88 gears and or higher to make it normal again.
if you cant weld... LEARN your gonna need to do it alot in this project.
next start researching everything you can about how to build your own suspension geometry its not a bolt on thing you really need to understand what your doing or your gonna have horrible bump steer or death wobble.
ok so lets break this down... you have a dana 30 in coil set up from a jeep. you wanna order adjustable long arms tons of tubing. plate hiem joints and so forth... you will need to buy different lift coil heights to figure out what will work best then return that one that doesnt work.
next is a dana 44 from a jeep same situation.
now a good easy set up is a dana 44 from a early bronco... tucked in width. going by one of my friends who has done multiple sas's it was the easiest to install. then the problem with that is wrong bolt pattern so you will need to do something with the rear end... 9" or something to that extent or shortened econoline axle.
judging by the typical build thread your gonna need around $2000+ this isnt a cheap way to go.

Re: Dana 35 sas / need full explanation
Ok thank you so much. That's the exact answer I was looking for. Yes I sound stupid but this is stuff I want to learn how to do. I love building and I'm 16 so y'all acting like I'm suppose to know all this isn't helping. And me and my dad are doing this. I buy all the stuff that needs to go along with it and he helps me build it

Re: Dana 35 sas / need full explanation
If you want a project to do on your truck, swap to a 5.0 V8 from an Explorer. You'll like that a lot more than a straight axle. More useful too in everyday situations.
Just go ahead and erase those mall crawler thoughts from your head. Just because your friends are doing it doesn't mean you should do it. Dare to be different. Do a 5.0 swap.

Re: Dana 35 sas / need full explanation
I'd love to do a 5.0 swap but I've never seen a sas on a ranger where I live. And I'm not crawling. I want something different and I want a project

Re: Dana 35 sas / need full explanation
I haven't seen an SAS Ranger here either, but a 5.0 swap would be so much more worth my time.
But, it's your truck not mine.
