Default ZHILLZ build - 02 with d44 and 9"

2002 Ford Ranger Supercab 4x4
SAS with Dana 44 and Ford 9" using leafs.
Goal is 36-38" tires depending on how she sits.
Project price goal without rim/tires = $3000

Price:
Dana 44 with disk brakes, tie rod, "custom highsteering" passenger side knuckle 5.13 gears trutrack locker, chromoly axles set up for CJ leafs
Ford 9" 5.13 gears 31 spline with full spool still with drums set up for CJ

$1,400 delivered with 15x14 steel wheels off craigslist.

Bronco II what are supposed to be 8" lift rear leafs with shackles and bushings= $150
YJ Front 4" leafs 287lbs 2.5" wide $78 each plus $20 for bushings and $8 each shipping charge or "extra" size item =$114 ea
9" perches 3.25" axle tubing 7" anti-wrap= $40
Dana 44 perches 2.75 axle tubing 7" anti-wrap=$40



Ford 9" 3.25" axle tube U bolt kit with spring plates = $45 shipped


I need to measure the front tubes because the only u-bolt/plate "kit" for the d44 I can find is $80 + shipping because of ubolt being different? which is insane.

I live in FL so extreme flex isn't needed, just durability. I chose leafs because its easier and cheaper but I want it to ride decent. The goal for this truck is 75% mud and 25% pussy getting; not necessarily in that order.

Many people have used Rancho 44044. Those are 2.5" Wagoneer lift springs rated at 300lbs (IDK the load weight)
I chose to run YJ front Pro Comp 51413 4" lift springs at 287lbs willing to add springs if needed.
Rancho 44044 are $173 each with bushings from summit
Pro Comp 51413 are $78 each without bushing = $98 each with bushings.
[need lengths and center pin location]

Custom front hanger made what ever width you want for $104 after shipping.

Good find on the axles. Chromo shafts for the 44 are damn near worth what you payed. What are your plans for the front driveshaft? The factory tcase has a stupidly setup output yolk for that gen truck.

For that leaf spring hanger kit you can use some 3"x2" tubing with just some weld on hangers on there for a good bit cheaper!

Yeah I was trying to save some time but I'm just getting some tubing as mentioned. Ordering ladder bar mounts and track bar tomorrow.

This may or may not be a factor for your build depending on the condition of the axles you pick up.
Pinion seals, all new brakes, and gear oil. Actually cheaper than I thought and definitely cheaper than Ranger parts.

I have the bank account ready to finish up the fab parts minus drag link but I'm waiting until next week to check out the 4th of July sales.

Probably gonna get tons of hate but have you thought about fiberglass fenders and bedsides with some surplus humvee 37s?

Why I ran glass (aside from the look and build goals)


33s almost no lift

I picked up some swampers 38x18x16 but not only am I having a hard time finding any 16s worth a crap, but I somehow didn't notice a missing lug when I bought them. I'm located in FL if anyone is interested PM.



Got the rest of the tabs, mounts, and ubolts. Need steel to plate the frame, tubing for hanger, and a new battery for the truck.



Hopefully starting the build Sep 2nd. We will see!
