Had a little downtime

Hey,

Unfortunately this morning we had a little server downtime. Basically, a log file reached the maximum file size, preventing new entries which meant users were unable to access the files (IE: the website) on the server. The issue existed for a while without fix because this kind of error did not set off any notifications (since technically, the server was still online and was working the way it was configured). Upon seeing the issue, the problematic log file was cleared out bringing the forum back online.

As a result, the server has been re-configured to cycle through log files to ensure that the maximum size is never reached which will prevent this issue from occurring again.

I had issues with my server before. You running Linux, or Unix. I have administrated forums for a while for a online gaming site (sorry under NDA about discussion on what site it is) so i know how difficult it can be to make sure everything works all the time. All i can suggest is back up very very VERY often. It is a shame to lose a weeks worth of post. I know LOL. Just FYI I did not notice the down time.

Not a problem. Essentially I wanted to inform you guys that it was a minor bug which has been fixed. I know some other sites are plagued with random unexplainable downtime over and over without any resolution. Just wanted to assure you guys that this is not the case here.

Crackeyes, yup, backup backup backup! I have backups being stored daily just in case.

Yeah I can think of one pathetic excuse for a Ranger forum that has that problem. Why is why I left it and will never go back to it. When things like that happen, it makes you feel like they don't give a damn about the membership.
That's why I'm very grateful you got this little glitch under control quickly, and assured us it's fixed. That means a lot, and thanks again!
